Best place to mount a camera?

Hey guys, I'd like to know where is the best place you've been able to mount a camera on you jeep ? So far I only worked with the suction cup and put it on the hood and on driver side rear and front and on the windshield. Just can't seem to get that "perfect" angle.

So what about you guys ?

If you zoom in you'll see the mount right over the "E" get some good video there with perspective including the Jeep. Otherwise if you don't want the Jeep mount it to your front bumper.

Great, I was thinking somewhere behind the front axle as well. Haven't got the time to figure something out yet but could be some nice shot from there too.

I took a shot from under the Trail Rated emblem but nothing good came out. Still have to work it out though

I have the roll cage mount and it also works good for mounting to the top of the rock sliders. I also made a mount using a high powered magnet that way it'll work when the jeep is dirty. Sometimes you don't want to mount it so I came up with a flexible arm mount.
I hope this helps ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1373847511.426852.jpg

I like the magnet mount. That's really nice and can be put almost anywhere... I'll give it a try !!

If you don't mind me chiming in with a related question, you guys running go pros? I have been shopping a bit and started looking at them, just not sure which to get. Pretty decent price difference between the low tier and top tier but doesn't seem like you get that much more. Are they worth it?

I say yes the 3 is real nice and has a few more options in the menu.

Here's what I came up with, granted I had a lot of pieces to work with.

A little backstory:
I have a GoPro HD and a GoPro2. The GP HD I ordered as a kit along with a chesty mount and the grab bag of attachments (the contents of the grab bag are different now), the GP2 I ordered as a moto kit so I could have those mounts just in case since the kit price was the same and I pretty much had everything else already mount wise.

I also have a Rugged Ridge mirror relocation kit that I no longer use as I wasn't real happy with view from them, pain to adjust and real bad blind spots on passenger side.

So here's what I did...

Threw all the parts pieces and what not in a pile.

Sorted out all the pieces that would not work
DSC_0010_8x6.jpg

Mocked up and able to operate from inside the jeep, a little bit of a reach but not bad.

Enough clearance to open door

Since I don't have any intention of re-using the mirrors I opted to grind the nut off the relocation bracket. I will re-use the suction cup mount so I didn't want to modify any of those pieces.

A little sanding and rattle can black

Final product ready to mount. I still need to run by the hardware store to get a hex head bolt with match thread for the twist nuts from the suction mount since that bolt has a square shoulder and nothing to prevent it from spinning to tighten.

Out of all the parts I had on hand I just needed the suction mount and the brackets from the RR relocation kit, and I am able to adjust right, left, up, down.

That's pretty freaking cool, great job. Is the camera as good as they advertise? Worth dropping the money for the top of the line one?

I like my old HD and My GP2 both with GP2 being a little better quality. I don't know anyone that has a GP3 to compare against and since it came out very shortly after the GP2 not sure if it changed that much. I would say get a GP2 or any version of the GP3 and you will be more than happy. The only real issue I have with them is the paint shaker affect when mountain biking and the lack of built in viewer. The shakiness is normally due to the mount stability, really rough on a bike, and without the viewer you have no way of knowing if the mount angle is right until after. I lost about a days worth of runs at Whistler last year trying to get the angle right on the helmet mount.

The go pro is a great camera as long as you keep the software up to date. If you do not the camera will act up and won't always record properly.

I love mine (GoPro3 Silver). Amazing video quality in a small package. Only thing it lacks is low light capability but, it's not really designed for that so I can not complain.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the input. Probably be buying one end of the week. Any accessories I should definitely get?

Gopro makes software for the iPhone, iPad, Android, and Windows Phones to control the camera through wifi. I have a gopro 3 Silver. I have a Windows Phone 8, and my wife has an iPhone 5. Both work well for controlling the camera, changing settings, and seeing a preview of what the camera sees. It is delayed by a couple seconds, but is good enough to allow you to set up the camera as well as start and stop it.

btw: I used a handlebar mount to mount mine below the rear view mirror. It takes video and pics upside down, but the software from gopro makes it easy to fix that.

A good high speed memory card or two, a spare battery, and any mounts you might need that aren't included.

If the GP3 is like the previous models you can configure the camera for upside down mode. I do that when I use the chesty mount and it provides a better FOV than using software to fix it afterwards. I may have to get the wireless adapter, seems more practical than the LCD backpak.
