Recent Shooting and Discussion

I too have kids in school. One just graduated hs last year and my son is in middle school. My sister is a teacher and my mother a retired teacher still substituting at 74 years old. My father, my sister and myself are also all competitive shooters. This stuff hits close to home for me too. I am truly not trying to stir the pot. Just joining the discussion and sharing my opinions. All good here. I am enjoying hearing others views as well.

Not here to call any one person out. It's not a personal thing for me but I think people can read through and see where tangents started.

I just don't see this as a thread for that. That's all.

Wow. This is quite the thread. I agree with some and disagree with some. Also some I agree and disagree with at the same time, lol.

My biggest fear is that ANY more regulation does in fact infringe on responsible gun owners and is dangerous when their is corruption in the government. I am not in favor of any additional regulation. However, would it hurt me to wait 2 weeks to get a gun? Nope. Would it hurt me to have a limited mag? Probably not, but I would have to reload more often during practice...

But that's not the point. I really do feel that Sharkey's statement (that he's posted multiple times) gets to the root of the issue: Why did this happen? VS How can we fix it?
Our culture doesn't value others, that's the issue. If EVERYBODY was forced to own a gun or EVERYBODY was prohibited to own a gun, sadly in this culture, I think violent crimes would be no different.

Not sure I've seen you post similar in the now 350+ posts in this thread. A fair post. [emoji106]

I hate to tell you this, but you should be much more fearful of alcohol and cars (and not even at the same time) with respect to your soon to be high school kids than you are of guns.

Oh believe me. I'm an absolute nervous fucking reck. Not even joking. I'd love to bubble wrap and bullet proof vest them until I could solve all of the worlds problems. Lol.

In the meantime I raise them the best I can. As you know, that shit ain't easy.

^ Not easy at all. My sophomore had a teammate take his own life (not with a firearm) this year. Being there to bury one of your kid’s friends puts a whole new perspective on what matters in life.

Roger that...both of our daughters just started driving...fortunately that both dislike alcohol (thank God, obviously didn't learn that from me...)...but just had the weed discussion with my oldest (sorry, not legal in HI & you ain't 21 either)...

No shit. I'm actually more concerned with texters and inattentive drivers than anything. We've had more fatalities here recently from driver's crossing the yellow line. However, with all the whacko random viokent crimes too, I find myself carrying my gun way more that I used to.

Truthfully JAGS, although I doubt we'll ever fully agree on the issue, you presented your side with logic and critical thinking and I respect that. I am definitely a pro-gun guy and will always be from the reasons I've stated, but that doesn't mean I don't respect others that don't fully agree with me.

That's terrible. Sorry to hear that and glad you are there for your son. Depression is a real thing and we can't really imagine being in these kids' shoes. We try. And say this or that. But just gotta stay connected.

Even in high school when you think the leash can get longer. We have several friend with older kids and they say that is when you need to be there the most.

Just seems like such a different world. Even than just 5-10-15 years ago. Let alone when I was a teenager.

My local police, like most departments with an actual S.W.A.T. team, absolutely has weapons that are not available to civilians. Of course I was being somewhat ridiculous with my examples, so let me be more reasonable. Civilians don't need grenades, barricade penetrating projectiles, 40mm projectiles of any kind or the pumps that shoot them, riot agents, gas, select fire weapons, shockwaves, BAT CAT's, explosives, etc., etc., etc.

?

I don’t need a 12” cock but it would be fun.

Used to shoot of tons of rounds of down different types in the reserves, mostly 7.62 and 50 cal. What I seem to miss the most is the smell. Was awesome.

Too much gun control just takes it under ground. It’s best to know who has what and where. Up here it’s too restrictive in some cases. One of my ex cop buddies needs a permit just to transfer his pistols to an indoor range. A little over the top I think.
