Building the Grendel

well i got moved into our new home finally. still having to hound the builder to fix some lingering issues. but, it's nice to not be working in a condo garage anymore.

so, i've had this Motobilt bumper for a few months now. i've also been sitting on my Warn Zeon winch and lower skid plate.

let me just i don't always agree with this board on vendors. but, i sure wish i had seen the crap Motobilt pulled, so i would not have bought this pile of shit. and let me tell you, it is exactly that. a huge pile of shit.

the fog lights are way too narrow and the brackets interfere with trying to bolt down the winch. but, the worst part is the lower skid. it is so much harder to mount than it should be. plus, they don't have any directions.

alas, i can't afford to toss it in the garbage right now with new house. so, i'll just have to live it for awhile.

Shit happens, but hey, at least you got your Coors light. Truthfully, I've heard good about Motobilt quality other than the way they acted like complete douchebags here on the forum. Sorry to hear it's not working out for you.

There’s actually not a lot complain about from the build quality. Great welds etc. but they definitely don’t have the driveway mechanic in mind.

It’s starting. Now it may not look like a complete set. But earlier in the thread I had installed Currie lower front and rear upper control arms and extended brake lines in anticipation of this lift install.

So what do we have.
Evo Spec Kings that I got from member Jeeeep. Quite a bit of external corrosion. But I had them rebuilt and the guys said the important parts were all good.
Synergy Coil springs. 3 inch
Evo HD endlinks front and back
Metalcloak front uppers. I had MC arms on my prior JK and they gave me no problems. I am using them on the uppers bc the joint is almost no maintenance. By the time I have to rebuild them, I’ll likely be doing an axle swap.
Synergy Rear track bar bracket. Picked up brand new from someone that never installed it.
Steersmarts front track bar bracket. Bought this before the BS happened on here. Definitely won’t be buying anymore of their stuff.
RHD drag link for the flip.
Not shown is an Adams front drive shaft. I bought it used. Going to rebuild it before I install and keep the old u joints as spares.

You're gonna really like those shocks. They ride really nice :thumb:
To keep them from eroding any further spray them down with a good spray on wax after each wash. I use a pressure washer and hit them really good to wash the crap off of them. I've done that with mine and it really helps

so, i ran into a major problem. so, it turns out the larger tubes on the Recon pose a problem for the Synergy bracket.

wondering what to do about this.

Made a little progress today. Got back home late today. So only had a short amount of time. Used some scrub pads and WD40 to remove a bunch of the surface corrosion from the King shocks. Look much better.

Got the rear springs in and one shock mounted.

Well I finished for now. She’s operable. But not 100%. Still need to replace my front driveshaft and I need to figure out why I ran out of adjustment on my drag link.
