Stubborn Check Engine Light

So first things first, pull over (as soon as it's safe) and make sure your gas cap is on tight. If this was indeed the trigger, your check engine light should go off within 10 or 20 miles once you're back on the road.

I also wanted to mention, I received the gas cap light more frequent using a aftermarket gas cap. When I went back to the OEM gas cap it does not happen that often.

This has been my experience too. The last time, I went through two aftermarket caps and still had the CEL light. I finally went back to molar one and it’s been out for over a year now.
