How many miles were on your TJ or LJ when you bought it.

Is the difference between the JL and JK comparable to the difference between the JK and the TJ?

Sure.

The JL is wider and longer than the JK just like the JK was wider and longer than the TJ.
The JL has wider axles than the JK just like the JK had wider axles than the TJ.
The JL has slightly longer control arms than the JK or at least, up front anyway and the JK had much longer control arms than the TJ.
The JL has a much nicer automatic transmission than the JK and the JK did as well compared to the TJ especially in 2012.
The JL has much nicer creature comforts than the JK and the JK had much nicer ones compared to the TJ.
Without question, the JL is a much more capable Wrangler than the JK right out of the box and the JK was equally more capable than the TJ.

I'm sure I could go on and on.

Another thing that is nice about newer models it seems less of a lift is needed for larger tires as well.I still like the look of the TJ/LJ's. they seem to hold their value more than the JK. I keep reading how the 4.0 is so durable too. I've driven many miles in my JK and remember as a kid our family of 4 went from Nebraska to California in a CJ-7. It was tight but you know it was such a cool road trip. The JK is much more comfortable no doubt about that.

I am really thinking about selling my JK and buying a TJ or LJ. I really have taken a liking to them. I found an 02 TJ, 4.0, 5-speed, soft top, dog hair, Warn winch, Warn bumpers, and about 136,000 on it. They are "asking" $8900. I drives very nice, no death wobble, new 33's and not sure on lift. Thoughts, suggestions, tips or talk me out of it would greatly be appreciated. I sent a pic to the wife and she called it a "wee jeep"! LOL!

I have a 2015 JK Rubicon 2dr 6spd that I have always really liked. Some nice mods too. I use it pretty hard off highway for camping and hunting. It has also been my daily driver.

But that did not stop me from buying a very clean 2005 LJ for sale (140,000 miles) in my neighborhood recently. It's an automatic and I have been modifying it too. Like them both. Seems like I am driving the LJ more and have been using the Rubicon less.

TJ's are really cool but I don't think I'd want one as my DD. It'd be a badass second or third vehicle to have and take on adventures, but man, JK's are just so capable. And like Eddie mentioned, the jump from the JK to the JL is crazy in the amount of improvements made from platform to platform.

One thing working in your favor Pete if you do make the jump to the TJ: Depending on how long you keep it, you'll probably be able to get close to the same amount out of it for what you paid.

PS: it'd be a great Jeep to take on a road trip to PA! ;)

I love my 2005 LJ, I do find it more fun to drive at times. With that said, I own several Jeeps, WILLYS, CJ, YJ, LJ and JK's and my LJ I think is the most fun to drive to the Beach or Around town (it is completely stock), but off-roading my JK is the go to vehicle.
