I have buffing pads that attach to a conventional drill, I’ll start there. What compound you think? It’s not leftover adhesive but rather the outline of the letters.

Odd thing to confidently comment about. My JK has a date code of 04/18 on the VIN sticker and obviously being a 2018 model year, which is maybe something similar to what he's on about with his LJ. However, he clearly has no idea how car manufacturers operate when it comes to model years.
