EVO: The lift options

Hi Guys,

Well I'm really struggling what the difference between the two EVO lifts are.

Extreme High Clearance Long Arm Upgrade Kit for $2300

4" Lift Kit DoubleD JK Bolt On Long Arm for $3400

I called EVO asking about it and the guy that I talked with said the main difference between the lifts is a complete kit compared to a kit that has arms and brackets. Since I already have most of the stuff from my long arm kit, I think I would go with Extreme High clearance long arm upgrade right? Then I could see about going coil over from there.

Well, the high clearance upgrade kit is just that, a upgrade kit. I couldn't tell you If.it would work with your current lift.
The double D is a full kit, it's pretty much the enforcer with a long arm.
I would say get the boltons now and then the high clearance long arm upgrade later if the funds are tight

Had to read a little more into the bottom of the EVO site. Brackets and arms. I've got all the other stuff like coils, shocks and all the other stuff. I would be just be doubling up on the same parts I already have with the double D full kit. Just had to talk out loud on this.

You must run coilovers with the high clearance kit. They do sell the double d long arm upgrade kit.

It's the same price as the high clearance one. If you go with the double d for now (coils and shock set up), once you upgrade to coilovers you will just need to change rear brackets and axle brackets to have the high clearance kit.

DOUBLE D Long Arm Kit: This is a complete kit with Plush Ride Coils and Shocks (of your choosing). The Control Arm Brackets Will Mount UNDER the Frame Just As The Factory Mounts.

DOUBLE D Long Arm UPGRADE: This is just an UPGRADE and Includes just the Long Arms and Brackets and NOT the Plush Ride Coils / Shocks / Rear Roll Center Correction Bracket / BrakeLines / Bump Stops / etc. The Control Arm Brackets Will Mount UNDER the Frame Just As The Factory Mounts.

EXTREME High Clearance Long Arm UPGRADE: This is just an UPGRADE and Includes just the Long Arms and Brackets and NOT the Plush Ride Coils / Shocks / Rear Roll Center Correction Bracket / BrakeLines / Bump Stops / etc. The Control Arm Brackets Will Mount UP INSIDE the Frame Giving Your More Clearance.

The main difference between the Factory mount and the High Clearance mount locations are that the Factory style will give you a bit better performance on the Highway and at higher speeds and the High Clearance, well... gives you more clearance.

This is also true...

This is great information but why do you need to run coilovers with the High clearance lift?

Your profile says you have a Rubicon express kit now, if that is still the case do u know if it's a radius arm? If it is, the evo long arm would do you a lot of good, especially if you want coil overs.

Maybe someone with more RE knowledge can chime in, but as far as I know all RE long arm kits till very recently where radius arm design. Imo this is not very desirable if you want flex and judging off the fact your looking into coil overs, I think this applies to you. Sure you can drive around on the street just fine with coilovers and radius arm, but when you go to flex it will put a lot of force on the joints, and from what I have heard, they will blow out quickly. This exact issue with the radius arm design was just talked about in another thread and had some good pictures:) If I can remember what thread it was, I'll post a link

Here is the lift that I have.

3.5 Inch Extreme-Duty Long Arm Lift Kit

Damn thing is 3k.

Yep, definitely a radius arm. Well, that sucks about the cost. You could always get what you want installed and sell that kit to try and recoupe some funds. And of course I'm not saying that you can't use that kit with coilovers, just that you will probably blow joints out and not be happy with the results.

Its ok. The lift came with the Jeep and I'm just replacing the lift with a much better one. And for the joints, they can be replaced free though 4 wheel parts from what I understand.

Why can you not buy the High clearance long arm upgrade without purchasing the coilovers?

Because the high clearance kit removes and replaces the lower rear brackets that hang down from the axle. Those brackets are used for the lower control arm as well as the shock mounting. With a coilover system like EVOLever, the shock mount is no longer needed and the EVO high clearance kit allows the lower control arm to be positioned higher on the axle, thus high clearance.
