Soft top side retainers

On the older Jkus, how do you secure the soft top sides above the front and rear door surrounds? They just pop right off. As for tucking them under and around like a U, they dont reach. Feels like Im gonna rip them off. What am I missing?

I assume your trying this with the doors open correct

Yeah. Someone told me it was because the top is pre 2010 and the door surrounds are post 2010 and are designed for the cable system top. That would make sense.
