$45k Budget build ideas?

I've got the opportunity for my $45k JKU build this year.. I've been researching for almost 2 years now, and want to try one new approach to determining preferences on a build.

Basically..

If you had $45k cold cash to buy and build a new jeep JKU, running minimum 37" tires, what would your setup look like? This will be your daily driver/hunting vehicle. As many of us know, the big game is usually in the hard to reach places, so some flexing capability is enough to hunt down those tough-to-get-to spots. Make it sexy or make it extremely capable. What would your complete build consist of? (providing install is free by a professional)

Thank you for your participation, and if I end up running your setup, I'll choose whatever standard color jeep you want.

I'd buy a $33K, out the door 2014 JKUR in August/2014 when the 2015s are coming in and then drive it directly over to Off Road Evolution in Fullerton, CA, and hand Mel the other $12k and then go to Disneyland for a couple if days (just a few miles from ORE). Return to pick up your new JKUR and then pick up your jaw from the floor. You wouldn't get everything done you'd want to but it would be a good start.
$3000 for 35" tires and wheels (when on sale)
$1000 for gear change
$150 for AEV Procal
$4000 for a EVO Enforcer short arm lift installed with Rancho shocks
WAYALIFE Windshield Banner - $15
$1500 for Disneyland for family of four - 2 days
$500 for nice hotel next door to Disneyland

just my :twocents:

Dynatrac 60's, bolt on coilovers, high steer, long arm, ram assist and 37's. The little bit that is left, if any, use for misc stuff.

Edit: was it $45k including buying the jeep or just for parts?

haha including buying the jeep, but definitely upgrading to d60's down the line anyways

I can't post my exact budget because my wife might somehow see this...

I started with a nice brand new stock 2012 JK Sport with 6 speed manual and dual tops. Lousy gearing 3.21

I wheeled it for a year with no mod except the EVO Protek skid plates and then a few months later upgraded to Goodyear Duratrac 285's

Then I did the following in the last year or so, listed in order...

3" BDS suspension with Fox shock upgrade and the basic fox steering stabilizer and the quick disconnects for the front sway bar

Ace rock rails, bolt on, not the welded on version.

Ace rear bumper/tire carrier

Ace mid width front bumper

Warn 10k winch with synthetic line + upgraded to a much heavier duty battery to accommodate winch

Rigid dually led lights in factory fog holes

Ace hood mount for Hi Lift jack + bought Hi Lift jack

Truck Lite LED headlights

Here is where I did a whole bunch of stuff all at once...

Dynatrac Pro Rock D44 + RCV Axles, Synergy ball joints, Dynatrac Pro Rock D60 + Dynatrac Axles & ARB lockers for both and 5.13 gearing

Goodyear MTR K's 37/12.5/17 mounted on Pro Comp 98's flat black

ARB compressor with additional on board air outlet

Had to swap out 3 month old Ace mid width bumper to go with Ace stubby bumper instead, to avoid the 37's from rubbing

I had custom driveshafts made out of thick walled 4130 chromoly (fortunate to have local shop who builds driveshafts for off-road racing trucks)

I'm sure I left something off, but just about every $ went towards performance first with aesthetics being nice but nothing was bought just as decoration, as if I was one of those guys who put in a $5k stereo!

As time goes on I will be doing upgrades as needed, better steering stabilizer if I feel the need, and I might go with ATX Slab beadlock rims etc.

I got great service and great pricing from David at Northridge, plus I'm lucky to have a great local off-road shop with honest owners and experienced mechanics!

When doing a budget it seems as though most people don't budget enough for labor...

I'm a decent mechanic but I'm much better at electronics and things internet and web based, so I don't mind paying someone who's really great at the mechanical stuff!

I'm sure I forgot something that should be on that list...

You forgot front DS and a tire carrier.

So maybe he can stay in a tent and then sneak one kid in to Disneyland. Should be close to equal then. 😉

Funny you ask this question. I did plan out my build and to do what I want to Canvas it will be about $25k

I would start with a JKUS
PR60 rear with ARB locker
PR60 fully loaded with ARB locker
1350 Driveshafts front and rear
EVO long arm kit http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-LONGARM-UPGRADE
EVO draglink Flip http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-DRAGLINKFLIP
EVO DTD front http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-DOUBLEDOWN-FRONT
EVO DTD Rear Lever http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-DOUBLEDOWN-REAR
King Bumpstops http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-RROCKSTOPS
EVO rear Skins http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-Rear-RockSkin-Corners
EVO tire Carrier http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-TC
ATX Slabs to match the PR60's
Nitto Trail Grapplers 37x12.3x17
Mastercraft Baja RS front seats with heated seats
OR Fab or Rock Hard Sport cage
EVO 1/4 pounder with stinger http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-BUMPER-FRONT, http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO-REV-STINGER
EVO D-ring http://www.offroadevolution.com/store/proddetail.php?prod=EVO_D_Ring
Waren Powerplant
DIY Relay panel

I have chose EVO components because they are proven and tested in some of the toughest off-road environments. Since Mel runs the same equipment on EVO1 I can buy off the shelf why not out it on my rig.

Base model sport, bolt on coilovers, Pr44 with ARB's F/R, 37's.

Definitely considering this. Never looked up coilovers due to lack of knowledge on them, but what else do I need to buy with them? Like control arms/any sort of equipment or brakelines?

Also, where do I go to get pr44 front and rear axles? I saw ORE had pr44 package, but that's only the front axle?

PR44 is a front axle. Your factory rear is strong enough for 37's. Front lower control arms if you get a 4 door, front lowers and rear uppers if you have a 2 door. And yes you would need extended brake lines.

Understood now. On ORE there is unlimited, which many people recommend. But also extreme duty, or a combination of the two. Is the extreme duty worth the extra $10?

Also aftermarket wheels like the ATX slabs or chamber pros with the correct backspacing to clear the coilovers :yup:

Just running through that list.......you're at near $45k +/- alone without labor......

Yes but they are not needed. A wheel with 4" backspacing or 5.5" backspacing and spacers will work to keep costs within budget.

I too was starting to wonder where some of you guys were getting parts cost. Some of these lists are over $45k in raw parts not including taxes, labor and all of the misc little bs.
