spring Swap from 14/55's to....

hello all
i hope im not beating a dead horse with this thread but I am looking to do a spring swap on my 2dr jk as the title says its got a set of 14/55 springs, when I got it I convinced the dealer to put the hitch on for me for free(along with various other things :D) and I have read that if I were to swap the coils from say a 4dr dual top with max tow that I would gain a bit of lift(somewhere between 1"-1.5", or so im told) because the springs are thicker and taller. my main concern is that its sitting level right now which i like and im thinking about doing the swap to an 18/59 set.

So does anyone have experience with this and if so did you have rake before, and did it remove it or did it stay the same as before only higher. the main reason im considering this option is that its brand new so if i replace the coils with the thicker/heavier OEM coils, then my warranty can be maintained. with an actual lift i "could" run into issues with the warranty down the road. also it seems like the coils are cheaper to buy then say a teraflex 2.5BB and much cheaper then a full 2.5 coil lift. then id slap a set of 285/70/17's on there and drive it like that for a while. i think it would also help for towing so the rear end wouldn't sag as much

I did this option with same spring rates you are thinking about. In addition I added a TF 2" in front and 1" in rear puck leveling kit. I have since also added a bumper and winch. I did notice the higher spring rate did make a difference when loaded down with more gear.

Here are some older pics I will try to post some recent level ones so you can get in idea.

I have a 2 door sport that had 14/55 springs also. I put the 18/59 springs and shocks on mine and got a bit over an inch of lift. Mine does have and ever so slight rake to it. One thing is you will love the way the jeep rides with the different springs and shocks

thats what i like to hear! thanks for the info. one other question is did you put in rubicon shocks at the same time or was the ride that much better with just the coils alone, and it the ride smoother, and by smoother i dont mean like a car i just mean less body roll/soak up the bumps when going over them and unmaintained gravel roads?

good to know! also good lookin Rig :thumb: did you put the levelling kt in at the same time as you put in the new coils? and how are the Rubi shocks compared to the regular gas shocks you had before?

I did not install at same time...I was thinking about it and should have. I would recommend doing at same time if you go that route. The Rubi shocks are much better than the stock sports. Very inexpensive upgrade. I got my set for around $100 slightly used. Way cheaper than aftermarkets...not as good as those but they work for me.

Yep, I installed both at the same time. Yes less body roll and the rubicon shocks go over bumps better. To me the sport shocks were like a car. After the changed over it ride more like a jeep.

thanks everyone for the great info. and the side by side photos definitely gave me a good idea of what to expect, and im really glad to hear about the rubi shocks going over bumps better. i also like the sounds of less body roll! its been fun so far and ive had it off road a few times nothing major just some steep inclines to test out 4low and couple of puddles! now i just need those coils and possibly shocks LOL guess ill have to post up here in "wanted" section to see if anyones got some kickin around! apparently most ebayers who have basically new takeoffs dont want to ship to canada :(
