Hunter Lake Trail--the long way to Cabelas

So I needed to get to Cabelas this weekend for some new hunting gear. Decided I wanted to to take the family and head over one of the local trails which I've yet to run all the way through. Nothing like turning a 30 minute drive into a 4+ hour adventure. Our friends LoPo and Alex agreed to come along. With the weather we've been having the last couple of days, it was likely what would otherwise be an uneventful drive into something else. Here are some pictures I took along the way.



Aired down and ready to roll out.

Uh oh. A hot oil light on LoPo's rig had us doing a little inspection and waiting for things to cool down a bit.

Yep, but it's not sticking.

Is that out behind Peavine Mtn? That was one thing I used to like about living in Reno. Could take my dirt bike or Wagoneer a few blocks away and drive out into the hills away from everything.

Had a lot of water from the recent storms.


Okay. So I guess it is going to stick. At least we can still see the trail right?

Oh well, time for a break anyway.

Some decent snow fell while we were up there.

I can see Cabelas.


The day reminded me of my time in Oregon.

Looks fun. I really like the soft top on the two door. Is that the 10'x12' tarp?

Just about there...


Got a little dirty. Took this while waiting for LoPo and Alex to catch up. Seems to be taking a while? Better go see what's up.

Good day! Thanks for inviting me along and subsequently the help with the flat situation. I have a bad history with one of the most mellow trails in the area.

No worries. Close, but this is on the south side of I-80. Enter near Caughlin Ranch and exit at Boomtown.

I think it was 14x14 actually. Helped keep them a little drier. :thumb:

He has one, he just elected not to put it on. A decision he is now regretting I'm sure. :grayno: I'm glad I put the full doors on last night. :yup:

Did you figure out what you ran over?

BTW--it was only 1.4 miles from the trail head. So close this time. :grayno:

Maybe Lopo can try that road again after they re-grade it.
