Hunter Lake Trail--the long way to Cabelas

MTG

Caught the Bug
So I needed to get to Cabelas this weekend for some new hunting gear. Decided I wanted to to take the family and head over one of the local trails which I've yet to run all the way through. Nothing like turning a 30 minute drive into a 4+ hour adventure. Our friends LoPo and Alex agreed to come along. With the weather we've been having the last couple of days, it was likely what would otherwise be an uneventful drive into something else. Here are some pictures I took along the way.

Aired down and ready to roll out.

LoPo making his way up a short hill climb at the start with Alex behind.

Hmmm? Looks like we might get some weather.

Heading on up.

Getting into the trees.

Uh oh. A hot oil light on LoPo's rig had us doing a little inspection and waiting for things to cool down a bit.

Is it starting to snow?

ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1411959763.041547.jpg
Yep, but it's not sticking.

Obligatory side mirror shot.

Hunter Lake. It's a dry lake.

Little bridge/water crossing.

Is that out behind Peavine Mtn? That was one thing I used to like about living in Reno. Could take my dirt bike or Wagoneer a few blocks away and drive out into the hills away from everything.

edit: sorry if I broke your picture string. can delete my thread if you'd like.

Had a lot of water from the recent storms.

Okay. So I guess it is going to stick. At least we can still see the trail right?

On of the open meadows.

Hmmmm? Which way is the trail?

ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1411960106.208343.jpg
Oh well, time for a break anyway.

Snowball fight!

Some decent snow fell while we were up there.

Heading down.

Beautiful scenery.

ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1411960267.026322.jpg

Got a little dirty. Took this while waiting for LoPo and Alex to catch up. Seems to be taking a while? Better go see what's up.

This doesn't look good.

Rear is done. Time for the front. Knuckles' virginal spare seeing dirt for the first time.

Loaded up.

Good day! Thanks for inviting me along and subsequently the help with the flat situation. I have a bad history with one of the most mellow trails in the area. :)

No worries. Close, but this is on the south side of I-80. Enter near Caughlin Ranch and exit at Boomtown.

Alex has been in Reno for how long and he doesn't have a top still? Lol

Looks like a good trip! :thumb:

:cheesy:

He has one, he just elected not to put it on. A decision he is now regretting I'm sure. :grayno: I'm glad I put the full doors on last night. :yup:

If I had known your history, you might not have been invited. ;)

Did you figure out what you ran over?

BTW--it was only 1.4 miles from the trail head. So close this time. :grayno:

Nope, assume it was at least a pebble or gravel.
