Mojave Road Part 1

We took off before the sun on Friday April 24th for 3 days and 2 nights of offroading and camping across the Mojave Preserve. It was a windy night at the first camp site but still a good time with cigars, whiskey and steaks. We used out Jeeps as wind breaks for out tents. The next day we headed it out for the trails on Saturday only to be interrupted my mother nation. She decided to send out heavy rain, hail and high winds up to 45mph. Luckily we hit one of only 2 paved roads that cross the Mojave Preserve right when the rain hit. We still needed another 1200 ft elevation to climb so we figured that camping and cooking out in that wouldn't be much fun. So we call it, and will do the next leg in May. Here are some pictures.

The first picture is actually on the way out to the I-40 on Kelbaker Rd.
The second is looking back down the trail to the Colorado River valley in Needles CA.
The third is my Jeep "Eugene" heading up the trail.
The fourth picture is of the Piute Corral from the Piute Gorge hiking trail (it is the brown ring in the middle of the picture. It was our campsite for the first night. It didn't give us much protection from the wind.
The last picture is of my friend Greg descending the only real technical obstacle of the day. It wasn't much, but it was fun.

Except for the winds it was pretty nice on Friday. Then Saturday was suppose to be 80 and breezy, it ended up raining and extremely high winds with temps in the 50-60s so we bailed while we could. Doing the other half of the trip next month; hopefully.
