A few pictures from the Mojave Road

We did the first half of the Mojave Road on April 24 and 25. We were planning a 3 day but right when we hit the first paved road that crosses the Preserve, it started to rain and hail. Then the wind hit 40 mph and the sand started to blow. So, we decided it wasn't going to be a fun night of camping. The drive back to Orange county was scary. I was driving my very un-aerodynamic Jeep straight into 40 mph headwinds on the I-40, then got broadsided by it for an hour until I got to the Cajon pass.

We started at Needles Hwy and went 60 miles to Kelso-Cima road when the rains hit. We spent the night at the Piute Corral, which didn't give us much protection from the winds. So our trusty Jeeps made great wind breaks for the tents.

Here are the pictures;

1. Piute Corral campsite. Mine is the Commando Green.
2. View from outside the Piute Corral. (Reminds me of a Clint Eastwood western.)
3. My friend Greg doing the only real technical part of the trip. (It wasn't that technical) :)
4. View of the Piute Corral from the Piute Gorge Hiking trail. It doesn't look like much from up there.
5. Onward toward the Piute Mountain Range from the Colorado River valley.
6. Looking back towards the Colorado River Valley.

Did you go to the school bus? How is it?

Some assholes tipped it over last year and I think we're charged with something because they posted YouTube videos of it.

We didn't stop, but it was right side up. This trip was just to scout out areas I want to go back to and spend more time.
