Got my trail shovel mounted to my maximus tire carrier today. I didnt like how.the shovel originally mounted high against the hilift jack so I set out to mount it behind spare tire on the tire carrier. (See pics below)

Items required:
_Used both maximus shovel mounts included with tire carrier.
_plumbing lock brackets (2 to 3 inch adjustable)
_grinder/ cut off wheel

Steps to mount:
_ cut off shovel mount front bracket approximately two inches to clear tire carrier when mounted. black spray paint cut edges to prevent rust.
_ bolt both shovel mounts to top of tire carrier behind spare using plumbing clamps.
_ mount shovel.
_ apply rubber jacketed padlock to secure shovel if needed.

Enjoy rattle free shovel mount that is easy to.access and low profile and out of.the way.

(First photo is original mounting postion attached to hilift. Not a fan of this obviously. Lol).

Another few shots. Not a fan of attaching gear to the hilift. Makes it that much more difficult to get the jack down if I have to mess with bolts to detach the shovel first.

And a shot with shovel removed. You can see the heavy rubber stops that keep the shovel held tight and zero rattles. Works with zero interference with soft top up or down.

Hey, great idea!

I actually just got these a couple days ago, but I have yet to install them. I've thought about using some quick fist clamps to tie down an axe in that area, but now that I see your idea I really like it. I think I'll try it with the shovel attached to the hi-lift first, but this has given something else to consider if I change my mind.

Thank you! Glad you like the idea. I had thought about quick fists but worried they may not be solid enough. I like how quick and solid The maximus shovel brackets are. Zero rattles and the shovel doesn't move at all. And that area behind the spare is perfect for an ax too. Great spot for inconspicuous storage of trail tools. Love my maximus tire carrier set up. I'm sure you will like it too. Very solid. No rattles. Simple design and fairly easy to install. Post pics when you get it done.!
