Welding gussets question?

Disconnect the positive and negative from your battery. Put the ground for your welder as close to the welds as possible so the current will only travel that small distance

I've welded on dozens of trucks, Jeeps etc for 40 years and have never disconnected the batts. Same for everyone I know...Keep the path short IE don't put the ground on the other side of the vehicle and you will be fine.

This is what I do. It makes me feel better, if nothing else.

I used to disconnect batteries before welding. It is recommended in almost anything you will read.

I got lazy and haven't done it in years.

I Keep the ground as close as I can to the weld, and haven't had a problem in the hundred + times I've welded on vehicles since then.
