Stock flex....really suprised

I hadn't really flexed it out at all and a friend took me over to a loading ramp to flex our rigs out.

Mine is bone stock with rubicon suspension, 2014 jku willys edition. I was really suprised how much flex these stock jeeps have. Note how the back 32 inch bfg km is making slight contact in rear fender at full stuff. No.way a larger tire would.fit without 2 or.3 inch of.bump stop added without big-time contact. Wouldn't this make the jeep flex less? Hmm.

short answer is yes, but ideally you would lift it also, which would negate the uptravel lost to added bumps. Usually your lift height and added bump stop, should be about the same size.

That makes sense. I think I recall Eddie mentioning that in another post somewhere. So let's see:

_add 2in coil spacer and 2 inch bump stop extension no travel is lost? Same if.I add a two inch Lift?

_Add 2in coil spacer or.lift and no bump stop extension I lose 2 inch down travel and gain two inch up travel which could over compress my shocks without bump stop extensions?

Seems only way to balance shock travel again is to keep the increase in lift size, bump stop size and shock travel size all the same to prevent loss of travel. So if I add 2 inch lift I would also need two inch bump stop extensions, and to keep travel the same as before the lift I would also need a shock that can travel 2 inches more?

Do I have this correct? Seems lifting over stock would be a loss in flex unless all three are increased proportionally: shocks, bumps and lift all increased two inches? Then you throw chopped fenders into the mix and I'm not sure how this would impact the need for bump stop extensions?

Sounds like youve got a pretty good idea of how it works. Yea you cant just lift it w/o bumpstops or you going to overcompress shocks and/or coils. And if your tires are big enough, you can chew up fenders as well. Enter the flat or cut fenders. Now, just know that the ultimate factor in down travel or, "droop", is the length of your shock. Its all a fine balance really. A change to one will impact the others.

Thanks for clarifying all this. Appreciate. Just to the point of trying to solve exhaust/driveshaft issue on my 2014 jku. Think I'm going to go with new driveshaft to avoid interference instead of exhaust pipe extension.

Driveshaft?

Thanks big b! I ment to type new driveshaft not new axle. Haha. I went on back and fixed the post.

Fellow Jeeper watching my six. Appreciate it.:thumbup:

Yes thats the way to go. People try shortcuts all the time to save from buyinh a shaft, but thats what the lifted jeep really needs.

If you are looking for a good cheap replacement I'd suggest Rough Country. I bought one of there driveshafts and have been impressed to say the least

I think you can get shock extension brackets so you don't lose your 2" of down travel if you don't want to buy longer shocks
