Even though it had been a long standing tradition of ours to end our summer with a camping trip up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, it had literally been 5 years since the last time Cindy and I have had a chance to do it. Needless to say, it was great to get back to what is most important to us and for 2015, we chose to spend our Labor Day weekend relaxing around a campfire and of course, with our good friends. Here are some photos from our trip, we hope you enjoy.

Moby all packed up and ready to head out.

Meeting up with Trail Bud, MTG and his family for breakfast at the Red Hut.

Cindy and I had headed down to set up camp a couple of days earlier and left Renny to stand guard.

More of our friends showing up and getting setup.

All setup and now it's time to just sit back in the sun and chill.
main.php

After relaxing for a bit, we decided to do a little exploring.
main.php

Our first destination was at a pretty unnamed lake that is often difficult if not impossible to visit well into July due to snow drifts blocking the trail. Of course, this was September and after a really bad snow year so not only were we able to get up here with ease, the lake was way low.

On the move again, we continued up the trail and made our way up to Kavanaugh Ridge which sits at about 11,000 ft. above sea level.

The view from up here is to die for! You literally can see the Hoover Lakes, East lake, Green Lake, West Lake and more.

Look back at our Jeeps and beyond.

After taking in the breath taking view, we decided to go on a short hike to see if an old glacier was able to survive years of little to no snow to keep it going.
main.php

Back in 2010, this is what it used to look like and even then, it was on the small side.

Today, this is all that remains and really, it's more than I would have expected.

Chris can't resist giving it a taste.

Heading back to our Jeeps - if you look real close, you can just make them out.
main.php

On our way back down with a view of Mono Lake in the distance.
main.php

Whoa!! A Renegade on the trail and complete with a roof top tent!
main.php

Back at camp and ready to cook up some dinner.
main.php

To good friends and great times - CHEERS!!

Taking a hike the following morning just as the sun was starting to rise.

After a relaxing morning, we decided to do some more exploring in the area.
main.php

main.php

Our first stop was over at the old ghost town of Chemug.
main.php

We come out here often and it really is hard for us to see just how much it deteriorates every year.

On the move again.
main.php

Originally, the plan was to visit the ghost town of Bodie and spend some time there but, the crowds were out of control and we decided to just do a drive by.
main.php

Back in the town of Bridgeport, we saw another Renegade!
main.php

Time to enjoy a blueberry shake at our favorite burger spot in town.
main.php

YUM!!
main.php

Back in camp, Tony mixed up some vodka tonics.
main.php

CHEERS!!

A shot of our final night.

And, what made it possible to hang out so late into the night in spite of the freezing temps! Thank you Moochie, Rachel and Ray for bringing out your propane fire places. :thumb:

That was a great way to end the summer. It's sad to see the glacier losing it's life like that.
Finally it was good to see everyone!
Thanks too Eddie and Cindy.

Man living in Houston blows regarding this type of trip. Can't see anything remotely this beautiful without a half-day's drive at the minimum.

Looks like an awesome trip and fantastic pictures. :yup:
