Radiator cap

Jeep 2000. 2.5 TJ Having trouble finding a 12-15#. Can you use 18#. Would there be any disadvantage Thanks

The number references pressure when the cap opens allowing coolant to transfer between radiator and reservoir. I would try to stay with what is recommended or currently on the vehicle. I have heard stories of people having seal damage on weaker cooling systems from higher pressure caps because the pressure builds too much, although it's unlikely. Did you move to a higher or lower elevation after you bought the vehicle. The only reason I ask is that may be a reason you're having trouble finding the cap you're looking for. Water boils at different temps at different elevations, and maybe certain areas sell more of a certain cap than others, just a guess really.

...in cap is split. Specs call for 12-15. No one here stocks such a cap ...only 18 lb caps
