Wheel Opinions

Need some opinions and expertise. Considering buying some ATX 194 Ravine wheels from Discount Tire. They'd be holding some new 37x12.5r17 tires. (I suppose a 13.5" wide tire is a possibility in the future as well)

1) Should I get an 8.5" wide wheel or a 9" wide wheel?
2) Backspacing on them is 4.5". Any concerns with that? Reading Eddie's newby FAQ, it sounds like it'll work well
3) Grey or black?

4) Any alternatives you suggest I look at besides this wheel?

I have those wheels in black and they do not rub with my 35X12.50 Toyos. I do not know how wide they are since I purchased them used with the Toyos.

Personally, I think the grey would look better.

Looks like you have the ones that are a little more concave. Here is a side by side of the two:

Thoughts on one versus the other?

I had the pro comp predator 5035 fitted yesterday, looks Similar, 8.5inch 0 offset, they called it a 4.75 backspace but I measured at 4.25
Fits well with the 35s and would also do well with 37s

Unless I am mistaken the 8.5" and 9" widths in the 17" size have offsets of +10mm and -12mm, respectively. The 8.5" width will therefore have a backspacing of 4.89" while the 9.5" width will have 4.53".

I ran 35" Trail Grapplers on a wheel with 4.75" backspacing and added washers to my steering stops to keep them from rubbing the frame at full turn... 4.5" backspacing seems to be the safe bet for 35s. When I transitioned to 37s I also jumped to the ATX Slabs with 3.25" backspacing, so hopefully others with experience running 37s and 4.5" backspacing will chime in.

Any thoughts on 8.5" wide wheel vs 9" wide wheel?

Im not sure if it will make a noticable difference or not, but a narrower wheel should theoretically hold a bead better when you are aired down. At only half an inch wider though im not sure how much of a difference it would make.

If you are planning on 13.5" wide, I'd think 9". Should be okay either way, with that.

if you're mounting 37's they may not mount them on the 8.5, what do the tire specs call for?
Here is link to 13.5". Doesn't specify wheel width that I see.
