Ever since Cindy and I started running a set of 37x13.50R17 Cooper Discoverer STT Pro M/T tires on Rubicat, our 2012 Jeep JK Wrangler, we knew we had to have them in a set of 40's. Fortunately, Moby is equipped with a Dynatrac ProRock 60 axle up front and a ProRock 80 in the rear and so we were able to do just that and we were even lucky enough to get one of the very first sets of 40x13.50R017's that Cooper Tire made. Unfortunately, running them in a 40 only got us wanting them on Rubicat too but unfortunately, that wasn't going to happen unless we could upgrade her ProRock 44 to something a bit more substantial. Of course, as some of you may know, that's exactly what we did:

REVERE THE STEER - Rubicat Going Wide with 72.5" Dynatrac XD60 / PRO 1550 Front Axle

With a Dynatrac XD60 up front and ProRock 60 in the rear, Rubicat was finally ready for a set of new shoes. Being on a national back order, it did take a bit of time to get but I'm happy to say they finally came in. Check it out!

WooHoo!! Rubicat's new 40" Cooper Discoverer STT Pros!

Absolutely love the design of the "side-bitter" shoulder lugs.

Here are a few shots to show just how much taller the 40" Cooper STT Pros are compared to 37" we have installed now.

For those of you who are interested, Cooper Tire states that their Discoverer STT Pro is their most advanced and extreme tire they've made to date. In addition to it's new and more original tread design that features an aggressive "3-2 center rib design" and shoulder lugs they call "side-biters", the new STT Pro comes with an all new "silica tread compound" and improved sidewall strength through heir "3-Ply Armor-Tek3. I should note that unlike the 37x13.50R17's which comes in an Load Range E, these new 40x13.50R17's are made in a Load Range C and that means they offer a softer ride. Of course, what we love most about Cooper Tires is that they're made right here in the U.S.A.

With all that said, all I have to do now is find some time break down a set of bead lock wheels and install Rubicat's new shoes! :icon_crazy:

Sweet!! Maybe a newb question but with 40s how are you balancing them, in my experience with 37s it was hard to find a place that had a balancing machine that big wondering if u have one in you shop or what u do?

Sweeet!! Excited to see them installed!

You and me both! Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to work on them.

For the most part, I haven't needed to balance most of the tires I've installed but the times I have, my local Costco was able to do them for me. :yup:

Beautiful tires. They're massive. Are you guys running 5.38s on Rubicat as well?

Yes, we had 5.38's installed a while back knowing that we'd be running 40's some day.

I've been hearing more and more about those Coopers. How many miles did you put on your 37s? Would they be a good choice on a DD also?

Awesome hope you make a video of the install

We did a video when Moby got his 40's and you can see it here:

We've racked up almost 15,000 miles on our 37's and they still look like they've got 70% of their tread. In other words, they're wearing great! I personally think they're great for a DD and do extremely well for an MT on snow/ice. They are a tiny bit louder than something like a Toyo MT but hook up way better on the trail.

Awesome! Love these tires. I will have the same tomorrow afternoon :beer:

Awesome! Took long enough to get and they are a bit more pricey this time around but after running them for as long as I have, I like they way better than the Trail Grapplers I had been running before.

Yea I had been sold on them for a while after seeing moby on them. And then wheeling with friends that had them the last few times out, was icing on the cake. I love my Nittos, but ecstatic to have the stt's now.
