    Electric Hardtop Hoist

I made an electric hoist using a harbor freight winch. Other than leaking a little oil, the winch has been fine. But it is a little too fast and also abrupt in starting and stopping. The hardtop isnít that heavy, so you really donít need a winch. It works but if I were to do it again, Iíd forgo the electric winch part and just make a simple mechanical advantage system with ropes and pullies.

Did you rig it as a direct lift? I'm using the same but rigged 2:1 and the speed seems about perfect.

Yes direct. I thought about a 2:1 but havenít gotten around to making the mod. I only use it twice a year so itís not at the top of my to do list.

About us
ďwayoflifeĒ is a moniker that Iíve been using for 20 years now and I chose it because I think it does a great job of explaining, in simple terms, the passion I have for Jeeps and the Jeep way of life. This is a lifestyle that transcends age, gender and race as the only thing you need to be a part of it is a love for the outdoors, a desire to explore, a yearning to take on a challenge and a will to conquer it. Over the years, Cindy and I have attempted to capture the essence of this lifestyle through photographs and videos and share it with others around the world. And, this is how WAYALIFE was born.
