TJ Rubicon transmission rebuilt

Dealer wanted me to get a new transmission because I’m having problems with the 2,4 gear.
Another mechanic told me I could just rebuild it. How much would it be normally to rebuild it???

A re-manufactured transmission from a dealer will typically come with a better/longer warranty than a shop rebuilding one and less labor time for you to pay for. Dealers from experience recommend replacing it because once you take it out and tear it down, the labor price is higher and who knows what you'll find inside. Usually the cost of rebuilding it will have less parts cost and more labor cost, whereas a replacement unit will have a higher parts price but less labor cost. However, a good transmission shop may get in there and find only a couple items that need replaced, however you still have to pay a hefty labor fee. The other option is to find a junkyard that has a used one with a warranty or even a parts house that sells used parts like LKQ or Partmyride.
