With the Jeep JL Wrangler coming out in just a matter of weeks, there really wasn't too much new to show off at the 2017 SEMA show or at least in terms of JK products but when it comes to things like axles, there's always something to offer. For Dynatrac, they used the opportunity to show off their new ProGrip brake pads made for their 60 brakes and also released their bad ass 40-spline gun drilled shafts that amazingly weigh about 3 lbs less. Check it out!

Gun drilling axles is a drag racer trick, I believe. So the the idea is that a tube is actually stronger than a solid bar?

It is stronger than a solid bar. More mass displaced farther away from the axis. Harder to bend.

Yep. I remember learning about that in school, lol. We actually tested 2 bars with the same properties except that one was hollow and one was solid. Solid one broke first.

Exactly why Rock Krawler’s sales pitch of “solid steel” control arms never made sense to me. Tubes are stronger than a solid bar, at least for bend resistance.

The other part of that equation is how thick the walls are of the tube. Dynatrac’s design looks stout and very impressive. I hope they make these for the 44.

And the diameter of the tube. One reason why sleeving axle tubes doesn’t do much: the sleeve has a smaller diameter than the tube itself.
