Shaver Lake, CA

Early stage planning on a trip to the Shaver Lake area. In looking through the Wells book for the area, it notes that most of the trails are open after June/July due to the elevation. Has anyone run trails around that area earlier in the year (ie March), or will that just be a snow fest regardless of which trails we look at.

Thanks!

The trails up there do NOT open until June/July even if there isn't much snow as crews go in there to clear dead fall and do maintenance prior to that.

Had some friends run Bald Mtn trail yesterday, barely any snow up there right now. Looking like there might be a few storms heading that way later this week.

Bald is open year round, so long as you're willing to wheel in some deep snow if it's like last year. This year the snow outlook has been bleak haha. But yeah, I went to Shaver last summer for 4th of July and Bald was still the only trail open. I would definitely slate for late July or August if you want to do the more challenging trails.
