90 YJ with a replacement engine, I6...

Just had to have a new carburetor installed, trying to fix future projects myself...

I’ve got a switch that controls the fuel pump. A toggle switch on the dash. Mechanic told me it couldn’t be wired to the switch because of a voltage issue of some kind...??? I’d like to get it back to “normal”.

Anybody have any idea why the prev owner would’ve made this modification?

I’m also told the Jeep has AC, but there’s no AC control inside and I don’t care to have AC... I’m pretty sure the switch also controls the AC compressor because I get a belt squeal when it first starts up, but it stops if I turn the switch off. Of course the engine dies shortly because it also controls the fuel pump.

It’s not at home yet, mechanic finishing up the carb replacement, I’m just trying to get some insight for my next steps.

I’m a newbie looking to learn, so apologies if I sound clueless, and thanks for any thoughts.

Update... like I said, newbie here... learning a lot.

First, ‘90 YJs came with mechanical fuel pump. PO wanted electric, so that’s why it’s wired to a toggle. Check.

Second, AC is factory. Original mechanic wasn’t a Jeep specialist and just didn’t know. Check

Third, wobbly steering column repairs are tough. I got 85% in and gave up. Glad I was able to get it back together, and learn a little bit. The journey continues.

Traded my first Jeep Wave yesterday. Had to explain it to the wife. She didn’t believe me.

Wrote out this big long thing and realized you already solved half of the issues lmao :duh:

The steering column wobbling, do you mean when you hit bumps on the road it shakes a bit or the tilt is wobbly?

Jeep waves are epic when they happen! To bad hardly anyone where I’m at wave back, most I see are mall crawlers;(
