Wheel Spacers on 4.5" BS

So while I'm searching for some good used 37s, I got to thinking about width. I'm running a 12.5" tire now on my wheels with 4.5" BS, and I don't have any rubbing on arms or frame. Moving up to 37s though, I'm considering a 13.5" tire and I'm worried that the extra width may rub.

So the question is... As it seems that a 1.5" wheel spacer is the smallest I can go on a JK, will an effective 3.0" backspacing be (a) unsafe, and (b) stupid looking?

If it's safe, is anyone else running this setup? If so, can you throw up some pics please?

Are you in stock rubi axles? I ran 1.5” spacers on my 4.63” backspaced Hutcherson’s with 37” BFG muds for a year before I upgraded the axles. They looked great, IMO, and the only issue I had was a bent rear flange which Revolution solved that. It never felt unsafe.

I run Chamber Pros with 4" BS and the 13.5" Cooper STT's without spacers. I was initially running 1.5" spacers because 1) I was concerned with rubbing, and 2) the Chamber Pro's aren't hub centric. But then I bent a flange like WJT ^^ and took them off. No issues with rubbing nor the fact that they wheels are no longer hub centric. I had zero stability issues with the spacers and honestly I still run them sometimes because it looks kinda cool with the wider stance. I no longer wheel with them on though.

At your 4" BS, how close do your tires get to rubbing anything? If it's better than 0.5" then I can stop worrying. 😎

Here you go. The stick out just a bit past the flat fenders. The last one I took to show lower ball joint is still fairly protected. This is the cleanest it’s been in awhile so good timing for pics! Lol.

That's perfect! Thanks. 🍻

Now those are 12.5 tires, right? Are your flares standard width? Have you been running this setup long enough to tell if it's hard on the ball joints and rear flanges?

Pro steer ball joints and chromoly rear axles(can’t remember brand) bushwhacker flat fenders. 3+ years no problems with it. I am sure you could bend flanges if you tried. Yes the are 12.50 wide and the Goodyear’s run tall.

On the front at full stuff the tires are really close to the front corner of the grill but I've never rubbed. It clears the frame just fine. If you're running reservoir shocks may have to turn the reservoir slightly to make room. Rears zero issues.

Perfect, thanks. I really don't want to run spacers if I don't have to... This gives me hope.
