Looking to plan a trip out to Colorado and the surrounding area the end of April, Beginning of May. Looking to take in some trails in Ouray, What is the weather like, trails like at this time of the year?

Most of them will be closed. Some don’t open until the week of July 4. Even at that, they sometimes have to bulldoze the snow. Black Bear Pass sometimes isn’t open, even then.

Caught the Bug
X2. Smart of you to check. Some of the trails are over 13,000 ft high. Depending on the previous winter, the best time is July - October with early Oct. getting pretty sketchy. If you can reschedule for summer you won’t regret it. :yup:

There are lower elevation trails that will be open, but honestly they are not worth the trip if you're just coming out for wheeling - the one exception being Chinaman Gulch. It is pretty challenging and open almost year round.

You wont find much in Ouray that time of year. To give you an idea, Black Bear Pass just opened yesterday and that is the earliest date in the last 5 years. Everything else is after the 7/4 holiday.
