What is the difference between a manual and automatic rear drive shaft? I snatched up a rear JE Reel 1310 for 200$ new the other day but it’s for an automatic JK. I am assuming the trans housing are different lengths.

I believe they are different lengths but from what I’ve read in the past not by much. Do you know if the Reel is a stock replacement? If you already have it measure yours vs the Reel and you’ll have your answer.

As mentioned, the length of them is the only thing different but not by much. Most aftermarket shafts come with enough slip to accommodate both.

Finally got around to measuring. My rear shaft is at about 44”. I spoke with JE Reel, and they said the manual shaft is 2” longer than the automatic.
