TJ wheels, looking at 16 or 17

This truly is for a friend as I am a JK guy. He currently is on 33's with a 4 .5 inch long arm lift. He is looking for some type of wheel that is bigger so he can run 35's or 315's. Beadlock would be nice but not mandatory. First off what diameter is going to work best beside a 15. He is on a stock axle with 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. He is not interested in adapters or spacers.

Any TJ experts out there, what works and what doesnt. Thanks.

Is there a reason he doesn’t want 15? It’s the best (cheapest) option for a tj unless he wants 37+. Look up tire prices when you step to a 17” rim (don’t bother with 16, options severely limited). If he wants to run 12.50s he’l need wider rims and it’s super easy to measure backspacing for how far he wants his wheels sticking out.

35/12.5/15 on 15x10 with I think 4” spacing.
