Sand Hollow Questions

I have never been there. Just looking for some info from people who have.

Is it worth the extra drive past Moab?

How many days should I plan on being there?

Good trails? How much is "doable" in a JKU? How about for a TJ?

I have never been there but have heard it pretty awesome. I know one guy that wheels a ton in Colorado and Utah and says it's his favorite place to wheel.
I plan on hitting it sometime this year.

I had someone tell me "once you go to Sand Hollow you won't waste your time with Moab again".

I had a blast in Moab so that kinda got me thinking...

It’s a lot smaller than Moab, but trails are much more hardcore. Longer wheelbases will do better but you’ll want to be built for crawling, not just have a short arm lift and 35’s. You can get some good trail descriptions by going to the “winter 4x4 jamboree” site and Dixie 4 Wheel drive has a downloadable map of the area. Search you tube for trail videos of trails you are interested in. Happy trails!

I had to look those trails up, but damn they look good. Probably a lot less crowded compared to Moab.

Moab had a ton of SxS traffic on the trails. But it wasn't crowded when I was there mid May. Some trails like Pritchett Canyon and Moab Rim we never ran into anyone.

I am thinking it could be fun!

When I went to Moab I was part of a small group of 6 rigs. Two Jeeps with tons and 40's. Two Toyota's on 37's. One LJ on 37's and my little TJ Rubicon on 35's and a long arm lift.

I was able to keep up but I had to winch up most of the big stuff. I couldn't keep the front end on the ground.

I decided to build my JKU after that.

Not sure I will be up for the buggy trails I found on the trails list. But if it is doable I will give it a go. I do enjoy the harder trails. Just not interested in spending all day adding dents and removing paint from my new rig.

Wish someone told me that before I went there with short arms and 35’s then again with short arms and 37’s. And again.

Also, there is some footage in the Wild Wild West JKX video of Sand Hollow. Looks cool

Just watched that again! I didn't notice that's where they went the last time I watched. Awesome looking trails!

Making a trip down to the grand canyon and/or Logandale might be cool as well!

It’s a lot of fun, much like Moab there are jamborees that are run there if you’d like to go in a group, but there are plenty of trails you could do on your own without worry of getting yourself in trouble. You could also get in touch with the Desert Rats ( Desert Roads And Trails Society) on FB and see if you could hook up with some club members to run some trails together.

Got back from my trip to Sand Hollow last Sunday!

What a great place!

Very comparable to what Moab has to offer. The rock is similar. However the added sand at Sand Hollow makes traction a little bit harder to come by!

One really nice thing is how close all the trails are. Just about everything (except the southern trails) is within 15 minutes of the resort.

There seems to be everything from "This is way too easy" to "holy crap what were we thinking?".

We spent 4 whole days and two half days on the trails.

Most of the trails we did were rated at 7-8 and didn't disappoint!

Definitely worth checking out if you are in SW Utah or Las Vegas.
