    TJ problems!!

So a friend of mine brought over his 2004 Jeep Wrangler sport wanting to figure out whatís wrong with it. So basically the Jeep wonít shift. It will start up just fine. And you can drive it up to 30 mph but wonít shift from first to second. Itís also an automatic trans. So my father n law put it on his computer and it showed the car was totally fine. No codes no engine lights. It just wonít shift by itself. And they only way he can make it shift by itself is if he drives in revers. Then he can feel the Jeep go from first to second. Donít really know whatís going on.. he also said all the fluids are fine. Trans fluid is full. So if you guys may know whatís going on or if itís happened to you I would love to hear any comments or suggestions to figure whatís wrong. Thanks guys!

Sounds like the linkage is fucked up. Misaligned so R is D.

I could be wrong but reverse is only one gear. It shouldnít shift in reverse.

look underneath the Jeep on driver's side by the transmission. You will see the shifting cable that connects to a plastic piece that connects to the transmission. That piece gets old and brittle. I had the same problem with my LJ, that little plastic piece cost me .99 cents at the dealership.

Unless you somehow made the engine rotate the opposite direction thatís not a thing. Thereís one reverse gear.

Yeah I thought that sounded weird too.. he had the Jeep on a trailer when he brought it over. So we didnít try to drive it. Iíll let him know to look at the linkage cables underneath.

I think youíre messing with us now.

If the cat was clogged, you for sure would have at least an o2 sensor code. A clogged cat will put back pressure on the engine and stop it from being able to rev, not shift.

About us
ďwayoflifeĒ is a moniker that Iíve been using for 20 years now and I chose it because I think it does a great job of explaining, in simple terms, the passion I have for Jeeps and the Jeep way of life. This is a lifestyle that transcends age, gender and race as the only thing you need to be a part of it is a love for the outdoors, a desire to explore, a yearning to take on a challenge and a will to conquer it. Over the years, Cindy and I have attempted to capture the essence of this lifestyle through photographs and videos and share it with others around the world. And, this is how WAYALIFE was born.
