I've been a member here for a while, mostly just to look for info regarding my wife's Jeep. I'm currently in Afghanistan and will need a new vehicle when I get home and would really like to get a Wrangler. I was wondering where I would go, forum-wise, to look for advice. Looking for a Wrangler, need advice on what year/years are the most dependable. I doubt I will be able to afford anything in the $20k range, more like $14 and under, but it might be doable with a loan.

I would look for a 2012 or newer, the 3.6 is a better engine.

Apparently some early 12’s have a sand casting issue, but I haven’t had any issues with mine. I have heard about a lifter issue on some years but not too sure about anything else.

Welcome from Arizona! If you’re not set on a 4 door, that will greatly help your budget as will a manual transmission. I’d try to do a 13 or newer to get the 3.6 engine and avoid the possible sand casting issue. Also you get the newer dash. Stay safe over there.
