P0688 - error codes

What’s up wayalifers. Anyone else deal with this intermittent code? My jku doesn’t always have starting issues but intermittently it will take 2-3 attempts at cranking over. So on each attempt, everything lights up, and starts to crank, it will get stuck on cranking for 5-10 seconds... then stop. I will have to repeat that 2-3 times before it cranks over.... battery is excellent both charge and under load. Battery is 3 years old (optima red top)

So this is what’s coming up now. Jeep turned on today, idled for about 5 min then shut right off..... would not crank over on the next attempt... just sat there and cranked but no start. On the following one, turned on. Drove for about 3 minutes, just died on me. Same deal with the starting... anything from anyone??

Have you actually had your battery load tested on a good machine? Also, have you made sure your terminals are clean and tight... As in removing them, cleaning with a wire brush, tapping them down onto the terminals with a large socket and tightening so there's no play?

Battery hasn’t been load tested on a good machine... but terminals are sparkling clean and were tapped down and tight.

Then having the battery tested would be the first thing I did to be 100% sure all the cells are good and the cranking amps are where they should be. Any auto parts store should be able to do it for free.
