JL JOURNAL : EVO JL Coilover Suspension Installation - S#!T JUST GOT REAL / PART 2

Ride quality is without question, 100% subjective and everyone has their own idea of what "good" is. Certainly, after over 20 years of testing a wide array of suspension systems and on all kinds of Jeeps, I'd be lying if I said that Cindy and I didn't have an idea of our own. Of course, for us, that would be a long arm suspension system with coilovers and specifically, one made by EVO!

In spite of what so many people seem to think, not all long arm kits and coilover systems are made the same. In fact, most kits out there require you to have a sky high stance, lack any real up travel and offer a ride quality that is in my opinion, sub par. What we love most about the EVO system isn't the high clearance long arm brackets, the low stance you can set it to, the 15" of vertical travel, the crazy big flex it provides or how amazingly well it soaks up the bumps bombing across the desert, it's how awesome it handles and feels ON PAVEMENT and as a daily driver. Even though we work from home, we rack up a ton of miles on our Jeeps and just on our JL Wrangler alone, we've already got 36,000 of them. As most of you know, we NEVER trailer our Jeeps and so all our miles are from us driving around the country to get to trails, wheel them and then drive them back home again. It's because of this that ride comfort is so paramount for us and in our opinion, no other suspension system can come even close.

In this episode of the JL JOURNAL, you'll get to see what it takes to get an EVO bolt-on coilover system installed on a Jeep JL Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. You'll also get to see how a suspension system is cycled for maximum performance and get a quick look at some testing we did, out on dirt. We hope you enjoy.

Without question, there's nothing cheap about an EVO high clearance long arm kit and coilover system but if you can afford it and need a shop to do the install, we would highly recommend you give Off Road Evolution a call. As you can see in the video, their guys know what they're doing and do great work.

A BIG THANKS goes out to Mel and Lisa for helping to make JET into the JL Wrangler we've always wanted.

What a way to end a Monday. Jet looks amazing and the smiles on your faces tell it all. Mel truly has a great eye for this stuff. Can’t wait to see it in action

So incredibly awesome! Since it’s my birthday today maybe I’ll ask my wife to allow me to get this :) doesn’t hurt to ask right?

That's pretty damn nice, I've been eyeing that setup since Mel teased it way back on flag JL

What's the maintenance cycle on coil overs and is it DIY?

One of the reasons I got rid of my Kings on my JK was because there were no shops nearby to have them serviced at that gave me confidence in their abilities to do it properly, the cost of shipping them back to King was stupid high and i'd have to buy new shocks while I waiting for them to get shipped back. I ended up selling them and replacing them with Rancho...

When the Kings were new, the DD ride was fantastic and made dirt roads so much more fun to drive ...fast and faster! but they sucked ass once they needed maintenance.

After running short arm kits, I'm leaning more to long arms for the ride but still up in the air on what to do about shocks

Stop making videos that confuse my decision making process more!!! :cheesy:

Great video! The most exciting part of the build are those coilovers! I was so excited to get mine that I slept next to them! Lol no joke and no shame I was that excited! 🤷🏻*♀️. Congratulations! Can’t wait to see you flex that bad boy in person. Good info from Mel in the video on adjusting to your suspension needs. In fact for the “do it yourself” installer that’s super valuable information. Nice job! [emoji1303]

Welcome to the club!

I got my evo long arm coil over about a month ago. installed it myself. Got a kick out of watching the pros do it in your video, they make it look so easy. It was really scary for me cutting off all the factory suspension on a brand new JL with less than 100 miles on it:eek:

I was a little worried at first that maybe I over did it with this suspension but so far I am way impressed. Only had it out wheelin once, can't wait to see what it is capable of on some serious trails. Going to moab in a few weeks!

Love the setup. Superb on the pavement and big flex on the rocks. Early last year I was about to pull the trigger on 2.0 EVO bolt-ons for my 2014 JKUR... and then THIS video came along. My JLUR was ordered less than six weeks later. Coincidence?
