33s on stock JKU wheels

Hey there! I got a new 2016 JKU (yay!) in August and I'm finally in the market for new tires. I was thinking 33x11x16s. Can I get away with that on my stock wheels? I know it came with 10 inch wide tires, but I'm curious about how far I can push that. Mostly a daily driver in the city, but I get off road whenever I can.
Thank you!

Should be fine ... I know I got my stock tiers to lightly rub but that has at a full flex if you want to do a lot of flexing with it I would run a small spacer

You can but I'm not sure you want to put 33s on the stock 16 inch rims... (anyone jump in here if I'm wrong) but I believe that the stock steel 16s are only 7inches wide (the rim itself) and the 17s are 9 inches wide. It might be to you advantage to find a set of take offs on CL or similar (I got mine for 100$ for all 5 with the stock Goodyears) I'm not exactly sure of the engineering dynamics however I do know that the wider rim will give a better foot print with the tire at speed and when aired down on the trail or in the mud.

False.

Stock wheels are typically 17 x 7.5"

Thank you for the correction... I will put on my dunce hat and go sit in the corner now... 👍 seriously thank you I did not realise it was only 1/2 inch difference. So moving on... Disregard me and my insanity and apparently you should be fine.

Thank you! I don't think I'll be doing a lot of flexing with it anytime soon, but I'll keep that in mind!
285/70r17 had slight rub on mine at full turn. I went with 265/70r17 to avoid it.

I now have 1.5" spacers which eliminate any rub I would've had and make the Jeep look sweeter.

The tires will easily fit your stock wheels but I think you would need some spacers to prevent any rubbing.
I put 295/70/17 (they are about 11.6" wide) on my stock Willys wheels and even with 1.5" spacers I had a slight bit of rubbing on the OEM air dam at full turn.
You can try it as is and if you have some rubbing issues just install some quality wheel spacers.

Thank you everybody! I think I'll give it a shot and get spacers if there is too much rub.

My wife runs 33s on hers with no lift. She did get aftermarket rims but backspacing is 4.75 which is nearly the same as OEM wheels with 1.5 spacers. No rub at all, but we only use it on light trails, it's a daily driver. We did cut the fenders though. She has a bunch of pink stuff on it too.

EDIT: Buy Spidertrax spacers. Due not settle for the cheap eBay ones, people have had safety issues. http://wayalife.com/showthread.php?34941-Spidertrax-vs-eBay-hub-centric-wheel-spacers

Looks great!! We cut the fenders on my YJ years ago, I'm not opposed to that. What kind of tires did she go with?

Thanks. Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs 285/70R17. Aggressive for an A/T tire. They are wonderful in the snow, we've heard the hype for years and they definitely live up to it.

I ran BFG KM2's in 255/80R17 before moving to 35's. I decided to add wheel spacers for mostly looks and definitely used Spidertrax. Occasionally you can find them pretty discounted on here or you can look them up and find the "blemished" sets for a steal too.

If you end up with spacers, heed WJCO's advice. I had zero issues with mine, properly installed.
