A Serious Question - At the beginning of your WAYALIFE...

Nothing...started off with a Suzuki samurai & learned to 4 wheel with it. I didn't have to buy upgrades since it had 30" tires / 3.5" lift...I just saved my money, sold the samurai & bought a jeep tj with all the upgrades already done & saved a lot of money.

I wish I would have known thy were coming out with the 3.6 two years later I might have held out for it. Also I wish I had researched coilovers before lifting my jeep. But I just think about how much fun I am having and none of that matters. Besides my 3.8 still feels like a corvette compared to my samurai I upgraded from:)

I'm still a newbie bro, it's sad because the only thing I was taught about cars, from my dad, was, "Take it to the dealership"

Me, I wish I had known just how much fun this would be after comming off 2 wheels, I would have looked longer and found a better equipped Jeep. Can't complain really, I am having the time of my life!

I wish I had known that Trans-American parts owned half of the companies that are advertised. I wouldn't have bought any of the stuff I bought for my 1st jeep.

I can only think of two. And they are a bit advance. However, I really wish I had some formal education in welding and fabrication. I went to a vocational technical school for a while in high school and took a high performance engine building, machining, balancing, blue printing course for a few years. It was really cool, but little did I know the guys that took the welding/fabricating course were getting something much more practical. I know its not dealing with the meat and potatoes of "offroading", but think about how much more you could do to your build process, make it your own, save money, etc. Man I wish I could weld!

Where I was going with this was I have been asked to put together several 90 minute classed for new Jeep owners. I'm thinking 45 min of class and 45 min in a Jeep. Basics like how everything works, what type of recovery gear should I have and how to use it. Stuff that is second nature to us now that we have been doing this for a while. I appreciate everyone's feedback. Thank you.

I wish I had realized how expensive tires are for 18" Sahara wheels. My dealer put 18" Sahara wheels on my JKU Sport S, which did make it look better but Tire cost to upgrade on 18" rims is astronomical compared to 17" and lower.

Since I am still a newb, I think the three things I wish I had known was how much money I really need to get this where I want it. Which leads to my second point of I would have waited a little bit longer before buying my JKUR. Last, I have to say I wish I had had more knowledge of the front end needs and potential damage that can be caused without proper protection (gussets, sleeves, etc).

3 things I didn't think of first!

1-should of did the research and got a rubicon with lockers! 2-didn't know that AC was optional! Lol! 3-aftermarket parts to make it BAD ASS are not cheap!! But all in all love my jeep.. Just wish the 3.8L wasn't so gutless! If I could only afford a hemi conversation!

I wish I could weld and fabricate more. I put an AEV lift on my Jeep but was on aware of the limited flex I would get with it. I love my Jeep but when I am in the rocks I don't like going three wheeled all the time. Jeeps are a lot of fun but with kids and dogs their is never enough room.

I wish I would have begun with the end in mind. I bought a rubicon thinking I didn’t need to do anything else. :yup: Then I went to a suds and grub. First I did a 2.5” BB with 35” tires. Three months later did a 4” lift on 37”s. :thankyou: Six month later did the double throw downs and 37” toyos. I had no idea I was about to be take-over by this “WAYALIFE”! :standing wave::thumb:

To RIPP or (1) NOT TO RIPP, (2) have almost everything done at ORE, and (3) I'm too tall for a hard top .

I wish I had known more about the different products and what my end goal was. I was lucky and waited on a lift until now that I have been a member of this community. I bought all Smittybilt which has done it's job but I'd like to get a little nicer stuff. As it stands now I will have to probably change the front and rear SRC bumpers to accommodate the 37s.

Things I wish I knew then...
- Should have gone Rubi the first time. I put more money into building up my first (Sahara) just to come up to Rubi standards. (couldn't be happier with my '12 Rubi!)
- There is no bottom to the money pit (but as my wife says, "it's better than you having an actual girlfriend on the side!")
- Force your salesman to call everyone he knows until he can clearly tell you the exact difference between 430N and 730N...

I am still a newbie and have learned to be patient and get exactly what I want. Owning a Jeep is an adiction. First mod I did was replacing my stock tires with Rubicon take offs I bought on CL.

Thanks for posting this up McKenna! Your post really got me thinking.

I could probably come up with 100 things I could/should have done differently since getting my 2009 JK. But then I thought...everything I've done to date has led me here. The point I'm trying to make is since I got the jeep I've seen so many incredible places and wheeled on some amazing trails. Most of all I've met some pretty cool people and made some life long friendships. All thanks to the WAYALIFE! I wouldn't change a thing.

Hope I didn't spoil the subject of this awesome thread.

Now what did I do with my Jeep mod wish list!? :D

Cheers everyone!

I wish I would have read more about the different model wranglers, I would have went with the rubi, o well now I have too build it like mobby.:rolleyes:

I agree with this as well. I would have gotten a used rubicon in a heartbeat, if I had been looking at jeeps before the new 3.6 came out. I was sold on the new motor, and a 12' JKU was all I could afford. If I could do back, I'd tell myself to wait a little longer and save for a rubi. My JKU is still stock though, so I might trade for a rubi before starting my build.

OH!!! I would have listened to people about buying extended warranties. I've heard a lot of horror stories from guys dealing with dealerships, and I'm sure I'll be vaoiding my warranty soon. At least I should still be getting my oil changes for free.
