Roof Rack + Snorkel = Overland?

H
just the standard sarcasm that states im badass as hell and i don't have a snorkel or roof rack. I really just don't get it. It really reminds of the "sahara are mall crawlers" thread from jkf from 4 or so years ago. If everybody is out enjoying their jeep and its capabilities, why does the build style matter...

Now this!! This is what I call the ultimate overlander!! When you're in a place like Afghanistan and are worried about whether or not your rig will be able to make it across the hostile terrain, just hitch a ride on top of a bus...

Nope, this is about as normal as it gets in places like Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. In fact it's about as normal on a daily basis as seeing Ford Focus with 4 passengers in any U.S. city. The best is when the flop, and yes that is normal to see too :icon_crazy: Still really cool in a crazy way.

:cheesy: Oh man, I don't know how I missed your post (maybe because I was out wheeling in the middle of the Nevada desert) but I'm glad that I saw it now as it gave me a good laugh!! :D

You tell me? Guys like you are the ones who feel the need to define the type of "build style" you have as if it somehow matters :idontknow:

Yes, but if you remember the guy who started that thread promptly got crushed by almost the entire forum on JKF. I don't even think it made it to post #2 before members were schooling him.

This thread may have begun as a serious question by Wayolife, but it became apparent very early on that people who tend to gravitate towards being a self describe "Overlander" tend to be the one who feel the need to categorize people and their vehicle types, they take it way too serious.

Out of the hundreds of (if not much more than that) people I have known or met in the Offroad community, I honestly have never heard anyone refer to themselves as a "Rockcrawler" or what we do is "rockcrawling". Kind of ironic isn't it that the greatest majority of the guys you meet in any of these comunities will never use either of the terms to describe themselves. Great name for a magazine though.

You mean to tell me your Jeep is just a Jeep and that all you do is go off roading? There's no self-described designated name I can call you and your Jeep? What is the world coming to? :grayno:

Agreed. I use mine for either the mud trails or camping or just enjoying a ride with my family.

So do I and do all the time. What could that mean?

That you enjoy your jeep how you intend to. Idk. Wasn't knocking anyone if you took it that way I apologize.

Does EVO make a rooftop Prius? That might be my next mod...:idontknow:

Edit: I only buy EVO and I don't care what you say!

Greg's new ride/rides.

Well, I can say that honestly I have never been brave enough to actually set foot in one. I have been around plenty in the last 30 years. It has nothing to do with safety, risk of any harm to life, limb or eye site. The freaking smells contained within these rides is something to fear. Human body odor, mixed with animal odors, mixed with oil and fuel odors, mixed with unknown materials that smell. Uh uh, I am not going in there brother!

Serious question here, do you have any idea how they get these vehicles on and off of the busses?

A small crane, usually like 10 to 30 ton capacity. But if you think the bus was sketchy, you should see the crane and the condition of it's wire rope......not going anywhere near that lifting operation
