72nd Annual GEM-O-RAMA in Trona, CA : Oct 12th - 13th

The Searles Lake Gem & Mineral Society will be hosting the 72nd Annual GEM-O-RAMA in this coming Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th in Trona, CA. In a nutshell, it's a once a year event where regular people are invited out onto the Seerless Dry Lakebed and allowed to dig for gems and crystals that are blown up and out of the ground. While there isn't any wheeling involved, you will get to enjoy doing something unique and very Californian and, I think you'll have a great time. There is an entry fee for each vehicle and more details about it and the event can be found here:

For those of you who are interested, we will be staying at the Quality Inn in Ridgecrest both Friday and Saturday nights. Whether you can make it out for the weekend or just for the day, we'd love to have you join us either way. Depending on how things go, we'll most likely take a trip out to the Trona Pinnacles and/or do some exploring in the surrounding area as well - all easy stuff. If you will be coming, please post up on this thread so that we can add you to the list. :cool:

Yea you definatly want some rubber boot. And tall ones work the best. It's a blast out there. I used to work at the chemical plant in trona. I'll have to talk to my fiancé and see if she wants to go. We were just in ridgecrest this past weekend visiting my parents.
 
You can also rent some tools at gem show they have pry bars, that's the ticket

I found the boots at Home Depot and everything else at harbor freight. Didn't check walmart but they probably have all that stuff.
