ARB vs VIAR on board air

I run the Viair 400C setup for JK's mounted in engine compartment, I fill three 37's and then overheats on fourth 37, I have hood open no difference, to get it going again I pour water over sensor and starts up again.

This setup is for JK does Viair not know there is a problem ? I do like Viair but the over heating thing is wearing on me.

To be fair, that's not a VIAIR problem. Any compressor that is sitting under the hood, then running for a while will overheat and shutdown to keep from frying. If that really bothers you, I would move the compressor to a different location.

This setup is designed to be under hood
Viair designed this kit for that purpose.

Viair needs to look at this air solution for JK's and take into account the operation temp under hood. To move it is not a solution if I do I'll get something else.

The bracket is designed to fit the unit under the good but it doesn't HAVE to be kept there. You can take the compressor off the bracket and move it anywhere you want. I have seen the ARB units do a thermal shut down as well.

The Viair 400c has a 33% duty cycle which is even worse than the ARB single at 50% duty cycle. That is why it is shutting down. The 450c isn't much more expensive (much less than the single ARB) and has a 100% duty cycle. The ARB dual is their only 100% duty at around $550.

You have to decide what is important. Speed (cfm) which is ARB's strong point or duty cycle/psi/cost which is the Viair strong point if you get the right model.

I'm running a York.
It fills tires so fast the compressor cycles because the tire valve can't inflate as fast as it makes air.
It's the best solution. do it right. do it once.
It's under $500 for everything you need.

Where do you find a york? Any particular model?

Weird to hear all the negative feedback on viair... I've had a viair 400p hard mounted under the hood for 12 years!! Still hasn't died! I had it on 3 different rigs in the 12 years, and never had it shut off on me. The fj40 I had it on had 38.5x16.5r15 swampers, then it was on my pickup that ran 35s, and now on my jeep with the 40s. Maybe they are making them differently/ cheaply now?? I have been just waiting for it to die, but so far so good. I'm interested to hear more on this.. View attachment 50393

you are in Murietta.
Ecology in Oceanside is the closest junkyard. they have half price days once a month and when it rains. Theres also an ecology in riverside.
They are really pricey on ebay and only held in with a few bolts.
you buy the bracket, a case of lienenkukal, and a york and I'll help you put it in at my place.

Hey SmokingJoe, according to VIAIR's website, the 400C is rated for 35" tires. That probably explains why you're having issues with your 37" tires.

Needless to say, VIAIR has larger systems for larger tires.

thanks, I work at VIAIR so I feel qualified to respond but only to this particular topic.
I was searching for a part on google and this specific post popped up as an entry.
I started reading through it and I saw a lot of comments that were screaming at me.

But instead of taking the bait, I decided i'd only respond to smoking joe b/c he seemed genuinely mislead about what his compressor should be used for.
