My worst fears realized

My advice would be to be careful where you mount the 7 pin. That was the only modification that I didn't do on my jeep and it didn't work out well. It's my fault as I knew the location was going to be a problem. Here's a pic. I ripped it apart on my the first wheeling trip after it was installed. Gonna drill the bumper and mount it through it.

Well, crap, that's exactly what I was afraid of. Any chance it could have been mounted closer to the hitch for protection? I kind of wanted to mount it on the right side of the hitch and keep the 4 pin flat on the left. Anybody know if the cables are long enough?

I've been thinking about this mod myself. It would be really cool to have brakes on my m416 for panic purpose's and to able to charge my battery's in the trailer while we're moving. I had been thinking of mounting the plug up behind the bumper somewhere between the frame rails and the. Extending the trailer plug.

I think it would still have bit the dust. The safety chain hitch flange got bent and it wouldn't be much higher than that.

What about reversing the bracket and mounting it flush to the front edge of the frame crossmember? Does that run the wires too close to the muffler?

Just thought I'd post these directions. I've never checked them out before. I've been told this is a simple mod. Plug and play, but to follow the directions because there's no extra harness harness. I'm sure there's a different harness for two and four door JK's. Yea I didn't think about the muffler. Everything's pretty cozy in there. Might have to clear that space up with the quiet crawler system. I would definitely smash the plug if it was attached to the bottom side of the bumper.

I even tried mounting facing forward behind the drivers tire and using a 7 pin wire extension. The problem is the seals are not designed to keep water/dirt out when it's facing backwards. I ended up flush mounting it in my ACE bumper.

On our second year pulling this guy around. Over a dozen trips near and far with no issues. I have load bars, sway bar and electric brakes. My 7 pin is attached to the bumper and hangs down below. I just flip it up and reattach to wheel so It's out of the way. And yes the wires can get close to the muffler if you don't have them tied up tight and out of the way. I burnt mine on a trip to the river this year. Learned that the hard way.

It's not a big deal really. Get a bi-metal hole saw from home depot and some "cutting oil" from a metal supply place. Drill nice and slow and it ate right through the 1/4" plate like it was butter. Then drill and tap holes for mounting instead of trying to put nuts on the backside.

An interesting discovery: On the Mopar 7 pin harness, instead of hooking to the battery for the power wire, I tied into a switch so I could kill the trailer power. I thought that power wire would only go to the positive 12v pin on the plug, but instead it powers the entire harness! I had no lights when I hooked up my trailer- turn the switch on, and bam, they all came on. I still think it's better switched, so I can leave the trailer plugged into the jeep without killing the battery charging the RV. I just have to remember to turn it on while trailering. I also tied the brake controller into may "trailer" switch.

I did this on my crawler concept skinny rear bumper. Cutting the hole is no big deal and it made for a very custom looking install that works great and is out of the way when wheeling. The way my bumper hugs the body, I did have to do some tub modifications for the back of the Mopar 7 pin receiver.

Mine is only 1500 lbs with a 63 qt arb fridge on slide, 22 gals water, 20 lb propane, James Baroud hardtop & gear...brake controller & maxi-hitch is a big help...but I am pulling it with a 5.7 hemi, so is a lot easier than a 3.6...

Was this a m1102 to start with? What cover is on the trailer? Love your jeep and trailer! I'm in the middle of a build with my M1101

It is built by Shutte Industries...the cover is completely removable if you want to carry construction materials or an atv...the hard top tent is on moveable posts with gas assist struts...

I really dig it!

Not great pictures but about 2 months ago I moved my wife and all our crap from NJ down here to NC to live with me. Took the cheap route and used my dads 26ft long landscape trailer and loaded it down with beds, furniture, lifting equipment and other house crap and made the 11.5 hour drive. Not sure on the total weight but the jeep was also stacked to the roof so it was heavy as hell. Even with 4.88s it was a rough ride and About an hour from getting here it started smelling alittle funny so the windows went down and she made it with no problems! And I'd advise having a hookup for the trailer brakes, or a prong adapter that works unlike the one I had...
