My neighbor just purchased a 1999 TJ with the 2.4 liter 4 banger, and is looking to lift it and get wheels and tires. He's looking at a 4" Pro Comp lift and would like to run 35's. The question is, are 35's to big for that motor and if not, what gear ratio should he be running? Any advise would help. Thanks folks.

4 cylinders are brutal. That being said, gears will help a little.

He will probably have to trim quite a bit to fit 35's with 4".

If it's a 99, it should have the 2.5. Totally different engine with less power than the 2.4.

As for gears, 5.13 will be required for 35s. 4.88 for 33s. Both are doable using Revolution gears (they come in 5.13 now for d30 and d35). Be sure to swap out the rear dana 35 if 35s are planned. If there is no axle swap planned, stick with 33s and 4.88s with chromoly rear shafts

Thank you for the information! You're right, it is the 2.5.
