1st Jeep!

Hello all,

We just bought our first Jeep! About time!

I've been Jeeping with my brother over the past couple years and caught the bug hard. The first time he and I went out together it was to the Land Between The Lakes Jamboree in KY. Second time was Drummond Island in MI. Loved every second of it. Now I can start sharing that with my family here in the Austin, TX area.

The good. As of today we've had our Jeep two weeks.

I've already installed the pouch packs on the inside of the tailgate, the red LED light ring with LED 3rd tail light, and aluminum hood latches and I've got the Spidershade in the garage waiting to be installed. Forgot, I put our AJP (Austin Jeep people) stickers on each fender and removed the Rubicon hood stickers to make room for our Jeep's name "Grey Gryphon." Hopefully, I'll have a chance to put that on the hood today.

On order, due in this Tuesday:

JCR Crusader Rock Sliders with Rocker Armor: https://www.jcroffroad.com/product/JKSld/JKSL-CRL-4D.html

EVO Belly Armor set: https://www.offroadevolution.com/product/evo-mfg-2012-protek-skid-system-auto-trans-jk-jku/

The bad....

We now have 500 miles on her and the lifter noise on cold start up is getting worse. I've compared with other Jeeps, even ones with a lot more miles on them and they don't have any lifter noise on cold start up.

This is our first dealing with a Dodge, Jeep dealer. I fully anticipate them telling me "it's normal". The only thing normal about this will be them telling me it's normal. Hoping for the best, planning on the worst.

Hello and wish us luck.

Congrats on your first Jeep, get started and it won't be your last. Definitely ask about any noise you find, but I will tell you, Jeeps do talk back to their owners, be prepared :)

I’ve owned 12 jeeps. God willing I’ll own 12 more. The serial number plate of my very first, a M38A1 is on the dash of my current, 2014 JK. It’s an addiction. Enjoy.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.

We are looking forward to our adventures in our Jeep.

Maybe I've missed it before, but I've never heard this noise from my brother's Jeep, or any other for that matter.

Thank you everyone.

Update on the engine noise.

The dealer is testing the oil for metal shavings and is currently thinking the entire engine will likely be replaced. They still have to crack it open but just listening to the noise it makes during a cold start has made everyone cringe.

Shall see.
