2025 RAM 2500 HD : First Impressions

Okay - just thought I'd post an update on the trailer brake issue. Dealership needed to order a new switch and that's going to take about a week to come in. So, for now, we have our RAM back.

That said, I wanted to share how we just got back from the most amazing DMV experience, EVER!! Yes, you heard right, the DMV!!

Finally got paper work to get our new RAM registered and because it was purchased out of state, a physical visit to the DMV was required. And being that we were out in Pizen, we decided to give our local office a try. Let me tell you, I'm so glad that we did! Being that the DMV office is considered a "rural" branch, no appointment was needed but they do have an amazing online check in system that allows you to put yourself in a virtual line. In fact, the first time I tried it was at 8 am and I was given a check in time by text of just 1 minute and there was no way we could make that. So, I cancelled it and tried again after breakfast and on my second attempt, I was given a new time of about 5 hours. Perfect.

With that in mind, we got going with our day, did some chores and then got another text to let me know we had about 3 hours to go. As we got closer to that, we headed in to town, had lunch and then went to the very small DMV office. And by very small, I think there were only 2 windows that were open out of maybe 4. Anyway, after about 10 minutes of sitting on a set of chairs outside under a shady porch, I got a text and heard over a speaker that it was my turn and at window #2.

From there, we were in and out in just minutes and the whole experience was literally the most pain free visit we've ever made to a DMV!

Need I say, our RAM is now registered and with our signature plates :)

Love the rural DMVs. It's quite refreshing compared to the cities. The workers are friendlier too.

That’s so cool you guys can use the same plates for multiple vehicles.

Our service at the Payson, Arizona DMV to register a trailer was also remarkably good. We made an appointment for later in the day, waited in the non-existing line, were attended to in just a few minutes, were done in five minutes, and after we left, there was even a phone call to make sure we were ok.

Compare with Dallas where the appointment time is in a few months. Then the line snakes around the building as you wait outside in the sun or rain. In 1-1/2 hours you make it into the building, and when you get to the counter, they tell you that you are missing something that you never heard of before, or that you waited in the wrong line and need to stand in a different line.

Here we just go to the county clerk office. No appointments and its quick. They have five windows with pleasant people. Its so nice.

I walked into the California DMV because there was no appointments available in the near future, there was about 40 lines and 500 people.
I walked back out and paid the local company to go handle it.

Best $50 spent.

I can not wait to gtfo

Honestly I’m not even remotely interested in fucking with this noise. I’ll keep Utah plates in our vehicles for as long as I can get away with it.

Nice! Yea I’ve always heard how simple it is out here, my parents head down that way. Reno is so garbage, even in their new building. Might have to make the trek next time

We bought our trailer 2 years ago in AZ. No one can seem to figure out how to register it. Tried taking it to the DMV in Garberville while we were on our road trip but it was closed. Its only open Tuesday and Thursday. So for now im just going to keep driving it around unregistered with no plates...haha.
