El Paso Mtns, Goler Gulch and beyond

Hi-N-Low Desert runners, and several friends are going Feb 21-23 to the annual Red Rock Cyn/Last Chance/Goler gulch/Bonanza camp and explore. Nothing is formal, we just go thru the "Squeeze" in Goler Gulch, explore the trails, and will camp (at least the first nite), at Goler Gulch, and the next day decide if we want to go to Bonanza Gulch and camp. I also would like to go up to Sheep Springs, or just go over the the Trona Pinnacles for the day. Some others have said, they want to explore some of the Red Mountain, and Johannesburg area, as well as perhaps a speedy run across the dry lake. We are very informal, but would like a note as to who, what, and how many will come. Provide your own food, and camp stuff, (water, sleeping bags, cooking stuff, ETC. ) also bring some fire wood, as we never seem to have enough.
More info....e-mail to; mojavedave1@yahoo.com. I am bringing my dogs, and my small popup trailer, ( if I can get through the sand!), and have gone every year since 2001, so will be having some good times again.
A CB radio is nice, as we can find each other if not on the same trails, and 4X4 will be nessesary for most of the trails. Open to all, and of course no charges. ( unless you want to give me money! :brows:). It is just a hop and a jump to Randsburg from Goler, so the wives and kids can go explore the town if they don't want to ride along.

16TH ANNUAL EL PASOS MOUNTAIN RANGE CAMPING TRIP

Feb. 21-23 (Fri-Sun), 2014 Red Rock/Goler/El Paso Mountains area annual camping trip.

Doin' it again this year for the 16th year in a row! Nearly gave up this year, thus this last minute announcement.

Here's last year's trip, Feb. 2013:

https://www.facebook.com/hinlo.deser...1731094&type=3

If you're interested, just let me know. Requirements are fairly basic as there is terrain for all tastes and plenty of hiking as well. There WILL be some 4WD ONLY stuff I plan on going through. It can be cold~REALLY COLD~sometimes at night, often down to 10-15 degrees. However, I have had plenty of 30-40 degree overnight trips in there in Feb. as well. Daytime temps are usally fairly nice, often just plain beautiful while the sun is out.

Items needed (basics of course):

~Food/Water enough for you and your shotgun riders for each day you're planning to stay.

~Firewood-I usually bring quite a bit, but always ask others to please try to bring at least a small bundle or two because if we all contribute a little, then there of course is plenty for all of us to hang around the fire.

~blankets/tent/bedding/sleeping bags, etc. Although there are cabins in the area, over these last several years, vandals have done enough damage to make many of these un-inhabitable and no longer safe to sleep in. I have stayed in most every cabin in the area, some several times. I can no longer suggest staying in these with the exception of one. So be prepared to bring shelter in case we get some rain or snow. I have been there in both! It can be wonderful, as long as you can stay dry! lol.

~Communications-I recommend a CB and/or FRS. I will be on 11 meter C.B. on channel 18 (27.175 Mhz) for this trip, changing to channel 12 (27.105 Mhz) occasionally. There will be both CB and FRS among members of this trip AND we will mostly all be together. If there are enough folks on this trip, and some have plans to go one direction and others another for parts of the trip, we will be sure no less then two vehicles with some sort of radio communications are among each of the groups, etc. Simple and basic, I know. But, I just want to mention it in advance.

Anyway, I am looking forward to this annual get-a-way, seeing some old friends and maybe make some new ones! Happy New Year!

This time in the morning in 3 weeks, I will be finishing breakfast in Goler Wash near Red Rock Cyn, Ca.! Cant' wait!:rock:

:rock::rock::rock::rock::rock:;);):D:D

And I am planning some bisquits, gravy, and lots of potatoes!!
Need to keep the energy up for wheelin in the canyons, or out to the Scodies. :brows:

Food and such

I think I may bring a couple whole chickens for the grill this trip! Nice and slow and easy. Can take a whole afternoon, sitting around the fire shooting the crud over a few beers and it's done when it's done! What do ya'll think? What is anyone else thinking of bringing?

Saturday Night...02/22/14

I am thinking maybe Saturday night for something like this (a good BBQ night) and maybe a "group" type dinner. I have some friends coming along on this trip that can't even make it out til Saturday night, so was thinking that might be a nice move for me to do for them. Open to suggestions and ideas.

Love it!
I could bring a tri tip, or some kind of chops too!

What about a side of something like White chili, or rice piloff?

Sides...etc...

I love the sides idea! I am gonna just go mostly basic for most of the trip with the exception of Saturday night. But, tri tip....hmmmmmm Steve! So unfair! So yummy! I will bring a bunch of sides as well. I do like the pilaf idea!

Food and stuff again...

Steve, I can bring the old school smoker on the trailer. In fact I half arsed was thinking so anyway! LOL What do you think? Or have you a smaller smoker? Lets figure this out and we can each accommodate accordingly.

2 weeks

Two weeks from today! I will have already had breakfast, finished my coffee, all while watching the desert sunrise and then have packed up enough to go and HIT THE TRAILS!

Cheers All!

Dave

Bumping up for anyone who wants to join in. I bought a nice tri tip today, and some nice chicken thighs, so along with the rice pilaff, it should be a pig out at least one night!!

:thankyou::brows:
