Worked a bit on the taillight guards Catahoula generously gave me for free (thanks again!). Been a nice little project to give me something to do while I save for 37s.

Their original state

All cleaned up

Primed them with some aluminum primer

If you've ever wondered what it looks like behind a taillight

I'll be painting them black with some Rustoleum truck bed liner tomorrow.

I cleaned out the garage this weekend and came across some old parts from when I did this:

One of those parts was the flashlight portion of the compressor.

Got me wondering if it still worked. So I stripped it down and wired (loosely speaking) it up to 4 AA batteries:

Couldn't take a photo and hold the batteries/wires at the same time, but it lit up!

So now I'm trying to think of a place to mount it in the Jeep. Got any ideas?

Under hood?

That's an interesting idea. Definitely would be nice to have when broken down at night and may be able mount in a less permanent way than in the interior. No telling how long this light will hold up so would prefer to not do something super custom just for it.

Playing around with the idea of mounting a wreath on the spare tire and lighting it up with Christmas lights. Anybody done it before? Any tips/tricks? Thinking I'll need to find some lights that plug into the 12V power in the back and just route the wire through.

Something like this:

That's a cool idea! I may look into it myself. You can always get a small power inverter to run a set of 120v lights too.

I do that but without the Xmas lights every year! Shouldn't be to hard to wire the lights in

Im tempted to wire it with white lights that are on all the time, and then a string of red lights wired into the brake light.

Shouldn't be to hard. You can get a trailer hitch harness and splice it in so that the white is hot when your marker lights are on and wire the reds into the brake light side of it

So I'm driving to Trail Jeeps today and notice the rattling from the roof rack is way louder than usual. I pull over to inspect and the washer/nut on the right side in the rear is gone. !!! So I drove it real slow the rest of the way and Wes hooked me up with a new washer and nylon inserted nut. Thanks Wes!

There's always been a bit of rattle from the roof rack but I assumed that was standard. Now I'm pretty sure that nut was probably loose the whole time, slowly working it's way off. It finally falling off completely may have been a good thing as now it seems to be much quieter going over bumps.
