Magnesium fire-starter 3rd brake light!

The TJ I just bought didn't come with the 3rd brake light. Not looking for an excuse to get pulled over, so I cut up the old JK spare tire mount, painted, bolted on. Safe again!

But I noticed that the JK spare tire mount material didn't seem like aluminum, maybe an alloy? Put a match to it and it flared! Must be magnesium or a good portion of it anyway. Good to know if I get stranded on the trail and need a fire! Scrape some off with your knife and spark it!

Confirmed, it is magnesium. Clever idea with the trail idea though, I never thought of that. Filed away in the mental Rolodex.

I asked the police in Indiana and he said 3rd brake light not required by law and also told me all I needed was 1 rear facing mirror as in rear view mirror on the windshield

I drilled 2 extra holes in mine the other day and the stuff does drill real weird. At first I though it was plastic over AL.

Man if I am not careful I am going to start a fire in my shop.
