It really is just about that bad.
I know someone who made precision rifle barrels.
He hired a girl from a temp agency to run a water jet cutter and cut stock bar to length.
She did great, running the machine for hours with no issues.
At the end of her shift, she got curious. She went around the safety guards and ran her fingertip quickly under the jet.
Sliced it off like deli meat.
He asked her why the Hell she did that, after cutting steel with the same machine all day.
"It's just water. I didn't think it could hurt me".
