Sons new vehicle

I know it's not a JK, but pretty darn happy right now. We bought this a year or so ago for my oldest as his first vehicle. Well after a little over a year rebuilding, his CJ finally hit the road again. Took him out to teach him how to drive a stick. Lots of laughs and he got good at running the ignition switch starting it back up. Practiced a lot starting and stopping and starting again. Then started introducing inclines to start on. Had a nice open parking lot to drive around. Still have a lot of practicing to do but I think he will get the hang of it.

After he was done, we took a little drive to an old missile silo park and grabbed a couple pictures.

Still need to paint the front bumper and install along with a few other little things but it's almost done!

That is a fine CJ and you've done nice work getting it on the road. BTW, my first car was a '64 CJ. Hope your son loves his as much as I loved mine.:thumb:

Thanks all, he is very happy with it. Will turn a few heads when school starts up in the fall.

A little info on her. She's a 74 CJ5, 258 I-6 with T-18 trans with a nice low 1st gear. (low range in 1st you can walk faster than the Jeep :) Dana 20 t/c with a 30 in the front and 44 in the rear. 4.27:1 gears so she's not a speed demon, 55 is plenty fast in it. Mechanically everything was in good shape. Eventually want to swap the carb to the Ford 2bbl as well as swap to the GM HEI distributor. Bought for 2k knowing it had plywood floors and rust in the rockers/a-post area. Cutting out the floors we found a rusted body mount so off went the tub. Figured while it was off, may as well clean the frame. Painted the outside and bed lined the inside as well as all cross members. Tub is the same, paint on the outside and bed lined inside and underneath. Bumpers will be painted the same green as the frame/roll bar.

I hurt my back a while ago so he had to do the majority of the work unless it could be sat on a table or I could sit in a chair to work on it. I think its a good thing, teaches him how to maintain his vehicle and he cant get into trouble if he's in the garage working on a Jeep :)

For the most part is is back to original with the exception of the aluminum dash plate we made and a set of Speed Hut gauges. I told him when we got it I would bring it back to original (ish) if he wants a lift or other mods he is welcome to get a job and pay for it.

I also have an 11 yr old that thinks his first vehicle should be an old flatty, told him this project has to get finished first before I can start another!
