TIDE PODS - Are they Really that Valuable??

I understand they have to at least try and put up an obstacle for this madness.

I was at my local grocery store last year buying my buddy's daughter an Amazon gift card. It was the only register, line behind was getting long. The cashier stopped and called the manager over. He spent a minute asking me a few questions to ensure I wasn't being scammed. Afterward he thanked me (and everyone behind me) for our patience and said it's the policy.
 
Oh damn, I just googled Tide Pods for sale in AZ and there's a ton of people reselling new/unopened for cheap.

Obviously there's a resell market for these damn things, but I had no idea it was that bad.

I don't get the hype on tide pods. I would much rather use the good old fashioned liquid soap you pour in a cup or powdered soap. I feel you get more for your money.
