Obviously this doesn't show full droop, but the front bump stop was in firm contact with the factory bump. So I think it'll be fine. I also backed up the dock, to check the rear pinch seams, which where fine aswell. But I forgot my phone in the jeep to snap pics, when I jumped back in to grab it, the jeep slipped off the painted concrete, so I left without any pics of the rear

Amazing how much better the truck lite's are over stock haha

Indeed they are. That's why it was the first thing I chose to upgrade. For the money I spent on them, I could have bought a leveling kit and wheel spacers or something else, but for me they are a must have.

18250 Miles (REGEAR)

Well, I have been driving around on 37s with the factory 4.10 gears for a while now. And in the background I have been saving funds and buying the parts necessary for a regear. I ended up with Revolution 5.13 Gears, Master Install kits, a Coast 1310 Front Driveline, and last but certainly not least, a JE REEL 1350 Rear Driveline.

After months of research on shops in the local/surrounding area and much debate. I (AGAIN) decided this was something I wanted to Tackle with friends. So I gave my buddy Justin a call, to see if he wanted to help me out. After a little schedule tweaking, we where able to find a weekend that worked for both of us as long as I was willing to miss a WAL group run I was VERY much looking forward to wheeling... But I decided to take the opportunity, and get the gears done.

Saturday morning was an early one, as I headed out to Justin's place in FAR east texas. With several dozen miles behind me, and several cups of coffee the Texas sun finally joined in on the fun.

After some short discussion; we decided to start with the front diff, being as it would be a little more work involved with the steering system in the way. So we pulled everything for the front out of my jeep, and got to work (front driveline not pictured)

Tear down was quick and easy! I wish I had space for an air compressor in my garage. This was BEAUTIFUL!

*did NOT forget to remove the front locker switch before removing the pinion :thumb:

20160409_102036.jpg

we pressed off the factory pinion bearing from the factory pinion and measured the shim, matched it to the new 5.13 pinion, and swapped the ring gears

20160409_113447.jpg

Time to check pinion depth :thumb:

Happy with the results, we pulled everything apart again so we could press on the new bearings and replace the races in the housing. With the bearing pressed onto the pinion, we installed the new pinion and yoke. Time to set preload. We used a 3' long, 3/4" drive ratchet to crush the crush sleeve, turned the nut a few degrees, check preload, tighten the nut a few degrees more, check preload. What a pain in the ass, and IMO, the hardest part of this install. But after the long, tedious, extraneous process, we got it within spec.

20160409_113142.jpg

Time to Reinstall the front locker switch, then install the carrier/locker and set back lash. After just a few different shim stacks and it was done :clap2:

One last final check before reassembling the front axle

20160409_142812.jpg

We put the front back together, Filled the diff with fluid, and installed the new 1310 Driveline.
With everything back together and the jeep back on all 4's, we called it a day, Had a few too many drinks, and hung out by the fire. :drinks:

THE SECOND DAY

With all the drinking we had done the night before, we got a pretty late start on the rear differential. But by 10 am, we where well into it

20160410_114013.jpg

After a quick inspection, We noticed we did NOT have to remove the rear locker switch in order to get the pinion out
20160410_124910.jpg

Following the same process for the front, we set pinion depth, then pressed the bearings and set preload (this crush sleeve was MUCH easier than the front one, but we still needed the 3 ft ratchet), then set backlash

20160410_171129.jpg

20160410_171122.jpg

And with that, One final check of the gear pattern and we where done

20160410_171920.jpg

We put the rear axle back together, filled the diff, and installed the new 1350 driveline.

first drive was silent. no vibrations from the drivelines, no problems. We drove the jeep around for about 20 minutes or so before parking it back at Justins house. While the diffs cooled down from their maiden voyage; we cleaned up around the garage and just shot the shit for a while until the diffs where cooled off, and I started the LONG drive back home. The jeep drives GREAT! It doesn't feel anything like a pig anymore! and as an added bonus, I was averaging 15 mpg the whole way home WITH a pretty strong head wind. With 135 miles on the new gears already, I am looking forward to the next wheeling trip for sure! :thumb:

Congrats man. Great write up. I just went to 4.88 with my 35's and it was my favorite mod so far. It makes driving so much more pleasant.

Very cool. Congrats on taking the time to do it right and bragging rights for sure for doing it yourself.

On another note, may want to look at the following quote, and add the word 'differential' in there. :idontknow: :cheesy:

Yep. No problems :thumb:

Nice. I doubt I will take my jeep out anywhere in the next 6-8 months so I may tear my front axle down and throw my locker on the bench. There's got to be a way to fix it. When I get ready to put it back together I know who to call for help. [emoji6]

Well yeah, you're only driving 40 mph... [emoji23] I started driving mine no more than 65 and I'm getting about 16. Once I break that though it's about 13-14.
